Hifi remote switches on my TV, very annoying!
I have an LG32" lcd tv and got a Hitachi (Currys) hifi for xmas. Very annoyingly nearly all the hifi remote functions switch on the TV!! So now i have to switch off the TV at the mains to stop it coming on when using the stereo remote. Anyone else had this issue and solved it, I doubt there is any way to change frequencies on either the TV or Hifi is there?

you could try some polarising filter material
stick some over the output of the remotes and the input sensors on the units have it vertically polarised for say the TV and horizontal for the hi-fi Not sure if its really practical or can work in the real world How doss it work ? try holding two pairs of polaroid sunglasses in front of each other while looking thru them rotate the other pair and it should all go dark Does it work ? don't know |

It's not a question of 'frequencies', all remotes use similar or identical frequencies (about 38KHz).
But there are many completely different remote control coding systems, for example Sony use SIRC's and Philips use RC5 (and now an enhanced version, RC6). By far the worlds most common system though is the Philips RC5, with many manufacturers using it (because Philips are a component and IC supplier, as well as a manufacturer). So RC5 (along with all others?) actually sends two pieces of information, a device code (TV, VCR, Audio etc.) and a command code (Volume Up, Channel 1 etc.). So if you have a TV and a VCR of the same make, the TV should only respond to the TV remote, and the VCR should only respond to the VCR remote - distinguished by the 'device code' it transmits. In your case one of the remotes is using the wrong 'device code', so either the TV is using an audio device code, or the audio is using a TV device code. My guess would be that it's the TV that's wrongly designed?, LG have a reputation for using wrong device codes on their remotes. A responsible manufacturer would redesign the TV firmware correctly, and issue an updated microprocessor and remote for the set, but it's unlikely that LG would do that?. Probably your best solution is to approach Currys and explain the situation, and swap the Hitachi for womething else?. It may even be the Hitachi that's at fault?, but like I said LG do have a poor reputation in this regard - and I've no way of knowing what make the Hitachi actually is (and I presume it's just something thay have badged?). |

If its anything like my LG LCD TV its physical "off" switch isnt an off switch as such, but just puts it on standby.
You have to use the switch on the plug socket as the Off switch! |

This is the problem with the latest TV sets - no power off button!
I measured the power consumption of my AV equipment that I put in standby... guess how much this is... 25W! Anyway to solve the OP problem why not get an RF remote socket set such as this one and turn the TV on/off at the power by remote? |

TV, Sky Box, Doovdé, 360, HiFi, PC, Monitor, DAB Radio All recent equipment, all of which still consume power when supposedly off. And then all these companies talk about being Carbon Neutral etc and the environment. Sky are the worse, they even have TV adverts about being green then try and enforce that the boxes are left on all the time wasting energy. Anyway.............! |
