SOLVED; How to make dvd+rw discs work again
audiofi
28-12-2007
I have solved the problem of how to re-use re-writable dvd's once they have been used in a computer, quite by accident, and this after pioneer technical support told me it was "impossible" to use them again !

I used nero start smart, and selected "make a data dvd" then once the main nero screen had loaded, I selected erase re-writable disc and selected quick erase. Once this had completed, I clicked on the disc info button and this then shows what is on the disc which is now showing as empty; However, it also shows the "book type", and there is a button at the botton of the screen that says "change book type". Select this and then change book type to DVD+RW and click o.k.

Now take the disc out of the computer and put it in the pioneer and go to the home menu and disc setup then you will see that the disc initialize selection is now NOT GREYED OUT and it can now be initialized and used again. The exact same procedure can be used for DVD-RW except you change the book type to DVD-RW this time.

This has saved me many discs that were just laying there doing nothing.

Pioneer were less than useless and completely unhelpful about the whole matter and, as it would seem, un-knowledgeable about their own products, but I guess the person on the other end of the phone wasn't as technically minded as he was making out he was !!

Why they should not want a customer to re-use the discs is beyond me and their initial e-mail was insulting, saying that I would be "confused" if they told me why they couldn't be re-used.

I hope this helps people, and feedback would be nice to see if you have made the discs work as I have using this procedure, because I searched and searched and could not find an answer to this problem.
