The library IS your music. Deleting things from there means you get rid of them if you hit the option to send to the trash.

There is a hope though. If they are actually ON the ipod you can get them off again with http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/

An easy option is to get a cheap external drive to back up the music folder to.

You should be able to sync the purchases back from your ipod to itunes

The software and service you are using is called iTunes.

If the songs have been removed from the library, they are gone. Why would she delete them after buying them? When you delete them there is a clear warning in iTunes to make you confirm you wish to delete the songs and send them to the recycle bin - but then to empty that as well!

itunes store is pretty friendly. email them and explain what has happened and tell will allow you to download them again.

then don't delete them again.

I was still under the impression that after itunes 7 you were able to sync back from your ipod. Could be wrong though??

Or try go to iTunes store>Account>Purchase history and Report the problem
They are pretty good about it,

Thanks every1 for your valuable advice, My daughter has now realised that she made a mistake, these things happen in the 1st stages of any technology i suppose(feeling embarrased now, head hung low) lol lol, sent email to I tunes to see if any recification can be done, seeing it was a genuine mistake, you have all made me feel better.

Do i just buy an extenal drive and attach it specifically for her music??

I know all these question I am so techno phobic, my area is mental health.

When you download music you don't have a natural physical copy you can rely on if your hard drive goes pop. So either back up your bought music to CD/DVD or get an external drive you can store it all on for safety. Maybe CD/DVDs are a cheaper option until you start getting a big collection.

Firstly, keep them in iTunes.
Secondly, keep them on the iPod, you can sync back and forth with purchased songs.
Thirdly, get an external hard drive to back up your computer - not just iTunes - anything and everything could be lost.
Backup purchased songs to a (re)recordable cd every so often as an extra safe-guard, costs pennies and doesn't hurt even with other backups.

iTunes is your library, it's the major component of the iPod system. Your iPod(s) connect to iTunes and get content from it, not the other way around. iTunes is the brain of the system, an iPod is just a vessel, they effectively mirror whatever is in iTunes.

Apple support are pretty good when it comes to iTunes. They often let people redownload purchased tracks following data loss, so you should be OK.
