Why the master would not regenerate: Theory
roland rat
29-12-2007
With the Master being Prime Minister, and having access to all experiements, and able to fund them

What if one of these experiements by accident created a clone, of someone. Now the master makes clone of him self, as a back up plan, as he would know the doctor might defeat him

Now this clone would have his memories, just be as bad as him, know exactly what to do, as if they might be twins. Only thing the clone could not do would be regenerate, which would make the doctor believe the master is finaly dead. Dont see RTD killing the master of completely

The real master would have confronted the doctor when he boarded the ship, and was explained why he was chosen.
His wife would also know of his plans, so that could explain why she retrived the ring.

So between now and the next encounter, the master could be looking for his tardis if its on earth, or another timelords tardis.

If anything, wouldn't his Tardis be at the end of the universe still, since he took one to get there? Which creates a bit of continuity, because if he traveled back to the end of the universe to show Lucy, surely he could of just picked his up there and not be restricted to End of the Universe or 2007. Then again, in Parting of Ways the 9th Doc did tell Rose just to leave the Tardis and eventually it will die so maybe that's what happened to The Masters? All the years he was Yana, his Hidden Tardis just died. I've just answered my own question, damn it!

I'm Thinking along the lines of the Ring being a bit like the watches were.

For me Lucy Saxon is the main link here, as others have said before, her appearance and physical state got worse during the episodes, in the background she is almost always holding on to something to steady herself or fidgeting, and has to be almost carried into some scenes by the Master. For me there was a massive hint in TSOD in the Downing Street corridor scene, just before Tish introduces herself to The Master. The Master kisses Lucy saxon, no big deal, but there is a strange lift in the music score as if to highlight something we are supposed to recognise or take note of it. We all know about the DNA transfer in Smith And Jones, so maybe that has something to do with it.

But to debunk my own theory, why does she cross her fingers during The Masters Televised speech from Downing Street, and why does she also being to chant the Dr's name at the end.

So my conclusion is, is that I'm wrong.

I'll get me coat.

I'd agree with that, but only if they were to pick up on it very quickly with the follow-up. I can't see them waiting several years before using something so subtle for the get-out clause. You need something very simple like he's in the ring for people to remember.

I agree, but I think the ring conclusion would be for the more casual viewer, but a viewer that likes to watch the shows again on DVD, 'canon-junkies' it is a subtle note to have Lucy Saxon in the background so the viewer looking back will go 'Ahh,, thats why she was acting like that' But for a casual viewer that doesnt rewatch/collect DVDs it still wont effect the outcome of the story, even not having seen LOTL

Of course all this could be way of the mark.

I thought the changes in Lucy Saxon were signs of abuse, personally.

As for why he refused to regenerate, he'd just spent a year in the Doctor's company and decided the sound of drums had nothing on the Doctor's constant nattering on about Rose. Even Mickey Smith would have chosen death.
