What do you mean which version?
When you plug it into your computer iTunes will tell you what software release you have on it |

Thanks for your reply. These were new i-phones which were given as a gift from America, but we are having trouble getting them unlocked as we live in Spain.
How do I get the software version through i-tunes? Many thanks John. |

On the iPhone, touch "Settings". Then "General". Then "About"
The Version number should be there. The latest version is 1.1.2 |

I have plugged it in but i-tunes is asking for the SIM, the phone is still locked with no SIM inserted, is this the best way.
Thanks John. |

Is there not an "about" section or "legal" section in the menu like there is on iPods? If you can't access that, you need to activate the iPhone, by signing up to a contract in America as a previous poster has said.
