They reduce them in size craftily a month or so before they're about to put the price up, then they will announce a "New Improved Size" and put the price up while they're at it. They do this with all chocolate but nothing ever gets bigger.

There have been many debates amongst fans of the biscuit about the size. Wagon Wheels have supposedly shrunk in size as time has progressed, but Burton's Foods Ltd have denied this. It has been suggested that the supposed shrinkage is due to an adult's fond childhood memory of eating a Wagon Wheel held in a much smaller hand. In Australia however, Arnott's have stated that tray packs of Wagon Wheels were in fact Mini Wagon Wheels and have re-released the original 48g Wagon Wheels.[2]

The original factory which produced the biscuit in Slough during the early 1980s were transferred to an updated and modern factory in Llantarnam in South Wales. The original factory in Slough produced the biscuit with crinkled edges and corn cobbs rather than the updated smoother edges. This caused the overall diameter of the biscuit to shrink slightly, but not as much as fans of the biscuit believe.

Also, although the UK Wagon Wheel has barely shrunk, it is still noticeably smaller than the Australian equivalent. The diameter of the Australian version is measured at 88 mm which is 14 mm larger than the UK version. Even though the Australian version is wider in diameter, the UK Wagon Wheel is notably thicker by 4 mm.

As of October 2006, the Canadian Wagon Wheel measured 70mm x 17mm

They have shrunk. I saw some the other day and it looked like they belonged with the pick n' mix. (Unless they were mini Wagon Wheels - if such things exist?)

Everytime someone complains about the size of a wagon wheel, they take off another millimetre!

Shame I didn't get an invite for that one, an ongoing debate about Wagon Wheels is just up my street.

I never noticed this issue before though, thanks for all that info. We must hold these biscuit shrinking corporations to account. My grandchildren would never forgive me if Wagon Wheels shrank to smaller than iced gems and I'd just done nothing.

Aerodynamically it is more efficient to use small wagon wheels, the horses use less effort to move the wagon, sweat less, this reduces global warming and thus is better for the environment.

You should be grateful to the manufacturers for considering our childrens future.

I can remember a lot further back than many of you and when I started buying them in the 1950s they were around 10 cm at least across and sold singly in a bag with an open end (a bit unhygenic by today's standards) I think they were around 4d each. They first started shrinking in size years ago, last time I saw one I could not believe how small they were

Incidentally, i've noticed Mccoys crisps have got smaller - I noticed their bags are now 32g but we're at least 35g before, might not be a lot but it'll make a LOT more money for them!

And Walkers Crisps are guilty of this too. Their bags are about 25g now. Pitiful.

I imagine saving money is the very last thing on their minds. They are trying to stop us becoming more obese

And I believe everything they tell me.

monster munch have also shrunk (I think!) in my fond memories of childhood they took ages to eat, you could eat each finger bit seperately and then the round bit that was left!

You mean that they've shrunk since you bought them?! That's strange - did you follow the washing instructions?

Are you sure you are comparing the same varieties? Different varieties often come is slightly different weight packs.

Multipack bags, yeah, standard bags are still 34.5g.
Everyone always tries to make out that multipack bags are shrinking and it's some kind of conspiracy to scam us, but the fact that multipacks have always had smaller bags has never been a secret.

Wagon Wheels used to be one of my favorite type of chocolate biscuits when I was a lot younger, but these days, for some reason, they don't really seem to appeal to me! It isn't because of the size of them either.

This argument has been going on for years, and the current manufacturer always claims that WW are the same size they have always been...but I'm not convinced either
