Will you all be having a special New Years Day dinner?
I have the inlaws over, so we will be having a lush dinner! Our menu will be: Pear, walnut and stilton salad with rocket leaves Braised beef with crispy roast tatoes and veggies Homemade chocolate mouse and wafer biscuits. (made by nearly 12yr old son!) Yum yum, can't wait!!! |

I'm going out to Ho Lee Chow's with my parents, my mum's best friend and her family. Best Chinese food I've ever had.

'Steak' and ale pie, using Quorn beef-style pieces, mushrooms, onions, peas and carrots in a beery gravy. Mmmmmmmmm. I've been looking forward to it for ages.

Forgive me for asking! Are you a vegetarian? If you are, why would you want something that tastes of meat? I'm just curious.
![]() Yes, I am vegetarian and I have been for almost five years. It may sound odd, but it doesn't really taste THAT much like meat; it's just something pleasant with some substance to it instead of the meal being all vegetables. Some Quorn stuff does taste like meat, but I know it's not, so it doesn't really bother me. No animals were harmed in the making of my dinner and that's how I like it.

Thank you for answering my question! I'm thinking of stopping eating meat. Is Quorn a good substitute?
![]() Yes, it is; it is quite high in protein and tastes really nice too and have a wide variety of products. There's chicken-style pieces for things like curry and 'chicken' pies, there's the aforementioned beef-style pieces, there's Quorn mince which I use for bolognese and other things, plus there's sausages, sausage rolls, burgers, 'ham/'chicken'/'beef' and 'turkey' sandwich slices, 'bacon' and all kinds of things. I love a Quorn 'bacon' (or 'Facon' as I call it) and egg sarnie. Mmmmmm! Supermarkets often have their own variants too which are nice. Tesco's frozen quarter-pounders are gorgeous! I've never looked back since turning vegetarian, I really haven't. If you want more information, the Vegetarian Society are a good starting point when doing research. Feel free to ask for advice should you require it!

I am trying to rid myself of the excess calories consumed over the holiday so will be partaking of a tin of Lentil soup and a small roll with no butter, followed by 7-8 miles on the bloody treadmill!

I've started going to Lidls. Very impressed! They have excellent veg and cold meats. Great prices. I don't understand the snobs who refuse to be seen in Lidl. Ah well, their loss!
