Hi all. I have a LG LH-T550TB DVD/CD receiver InFocus ScreenPlay 4805 projector connected via component cables.

I have been given a Playstation 2 and was wondering how do I connect it up to the DVD player so the video signal goes through the existing component cables to the projector and the sound goes through the LG DVD unit?

The video signal must go through the component cable as the cable is fixed to the wall.

I have been racking my brains for a few days now.

What cables do I need and how do they all fit into the setup?

Thanks in advance.
Matthew

Thanks for the link.

Would this work.. with this and a 2nd component cable for the dvd player?

So ps2 cable to expansion box with 2nd component from dvd player to exopansion box and the expansion box to the DVD players component plugs on the back of the DVD player?

Would that work? Thanks again

if you look at the back of the dvd player, beside the scart is an input

your projector is connected to the output

PS2 only has composite output, unless the newer models have had it added.

All I have on mine is composite and a couple of phono leads, L R AUDIO, stuck into one of those plastic scart adaptors.

The new PS2 - Slimline, that I have, allows you to use component signal to he TV/projector.. I want to use this on my projector etc.. Any advice / help would b great.

You can get a switch box for just about anything, it's the cost though. Your problem seems to be a decorating one rather than technical.

Switchbox with component output. Plug the PS2 into it and your projector cable into the back.

and an output which you currently have connected to your projector

No. The component cable from the projector can not be removed from the back of the projector as it is stuck to the wall.

What options do I have? Thanks again.

Ok.. to recap...

If i get this and attach a 2nd cable, this to the output of the box above to the DVD player . Then get this to attach to the ps2. And the current cable from the projector to the output of the box.

does that sound right?

IF your DVD player has a component input, you can plug the PS2 cable straight into it and the component output I assume goes to your projector.

Now I see what niall campbell above was thinking.

No my DVD player only has one set of component out sockets that I will attch to a port on the new box. The output cable from the box will be and go to the projector.

That switchbox you found will let you connect your PS2 directly to your projector then, plug your fixed component cable into the switchboxes output, then plug the PS2 and DVD into it's inputs.

That sounds about right, and simple.

That sounds so simple... Will it work? What about the sound from the ps2? Where do I put the L/R leads from the ps2 component cable??

It has audio inputs too, I just blew up the diagram, you plug the left & right audio cables in next to the component ones. Or directly into your receiver, DVD.

Your lucky. I could not see the diagram!!!

Oh man thats fab!! I will get an order done today for the cables/box.

Cheers

A bit of a long shot, but do you know if the ps3 component cables fit the ps2?

Is there a component to HDMI cable I can buy?

Component is the same, it's also analogue and HDMI is digital. It would be pointless and probably expensive to get an adaptor/cable for that.

Some component cables are just the three video leads, some have an extra two phono leads connected. You can buy audio phono leads in any size you want cheaply if you need extra length etc.

put in model number

on page 9 it tells YOU how to connect up another device. If you connect your PS 2 in there it will feed into the component out and go to your projector

USE IT ! one cable is all that is required.

yes the inputs are phono leads only, so it will be less quality than component but carries the sound and picture

so thats what I was missing

That's the easiest way, it will only be a composite picture from the Playstation though, your receiver only appears to have a composite input.

I wouldn't put a cheap switchbox between a more expensive receiver unless you really want to watch the PS2 in component quality video.

Cables are confusing aren't they.
