Must be loads of people sending texts, I can't get any through using Virgin Mobile, Three, Vodafone or Orange SIMs.

I've now received replies to some of the ones sent via Virgin Mobile even though they have come up failed and not displayed Sent OK in the details.

Only sent a few texts on Virgin Mobile out of many more. Loads of "unable to send" in outbox

No delivery reports but texts being recieved.

I thought it was going to be much better this year?

Erm it's new years day, this happens every year and proves that the networks don't allow the capacity needed for an occasion such as midnight on new years eve

unlikely to be as many people trying to send texts because of a local bomb as at new year's.

It appears to be a bit of a hit and miss for me on 3. SMS appear to be slightly delayed at the moment however MMS messages are going through without any trouble.

Text messages aren't priority traffic, they just get sent when there's spare capacity for them to go.

Sent 10 MMS on 3 network at 11.45. All went ok. Sent another at 12.05 and still has not gone.

One reply only from another 3 user.

Hi, I've been trying to send messages on my orange phone since 23:30 - one is still in my outbox, but my sister swears she rec'd it - the others just won't budge. Its well over an hour since new year - for me at least this is worse than last year!

They say we will send 300 million texts over the next 24 hours. Might have to wait a while for the backlog to get through.

Your sister could well have received it, even though it's still in the outbox waiting to send, I've received replies to messages I've sent that were still stuck in the outbox as sending failed.

Is anyone really surprised that messages take a little longer at this time of year?

Not surprised there were problems but surprised that the messages all seem to go ok before 12 but not after 12. I sent and received loads before 12 ok. But the few I sent after 12 were failed. Couldnt send any again till about 2a.m.
I am surprised at this as most people I know were sending messages New Years Eve (i.e. before 12) and not New Years day (i.e. after 12) which was when the problems seem to occur

I couldnt get any to send on Orange or Three but the O2 worked even the calls would connect (after three goes).

Orange texts have started coming through now and the Three's came about ~2-3am.

T-mobile worked great again this year no delay in sending messages even minutes after midnight calls were connecting fine most of the time it was the receiving network failing to handle the call and diverting it to voicemail.

On Virgin mobile, most of those I sent were showing as pending for several hours, eventually changing to delivered, two of them eventually came up as failed and another as not sent, sent to these people again then got multiple delivery reports for the same number,so not sure if some people got their text more than once! A friend text me this morning, tried to reply three times and keep getting failed, not sure which network they're on so have now emailed them instead!
