Pescetarians don't eat chicken.
They just said they was thinking about trying it. For the moment I would have thought they are a pescetarian.Personally, I was veggie for about 5yrs, then got very drunk on holiday and had a KFC (no memory of this, but the photos prove it ) Since then I've started introducing fish and meat back into my diet. I wouldn't have classed myself as very healthy whilst being veggie, so for me it didn't work as a lifestyle.

Try VeggiDeli Vegetarian Breaded Fish-Style Fingers.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans, you can get them at ASDA.

Are they in all Asda's, or just the bigger Walmart Supercentre ones, and where do you usually find them in the store? Thanks.
![]() They're in the vegetarian section of the chiller cabinets. I've see them in Holland and Barretts too. |

I had vegetarian fish cakes 10yrs or so when I first gave up meat, I bought them as a novelty and they really were delicious.
A big part of eating fish for me now is the omega 3 oils. I cook for my grandad who always had meat but is now pescatarian too (he has dementia though so he has no idea, and when we eat he says "oh it's a long time since I had a mackerel", often though it's just the night before ). He's in his 90's and I think the nutrients in the fish have helped keep him so fit and well. I would happily eat the fake one's though, as they are so nice.

Without wishing to go into every boring detail, I went veggie in 1994. I'd never been a big meat eater, mainly chicken, bacon, sausages etc. We then got a smallholding and started keeping our own chickens, and I discovered how cute they were, how they all had different personalities and thought, I can't eat chicken anymore, it just didn't seem right. Also our neighbour grazed our field with her sheep and lambs. One day we were invited over for dinner, and she proudly told us that it was one of her lambs we were about to eat, probably one that I had petted and fussed only a couple of days before. That was the final straw for me. I stopped eating any meat at all from that day. After a few years, I got fed up every time we had something from the chippy, that was literally all I could have - bloody chips, they didn't do any veggie options here, so I started eating cod again or fishcakes, as long as there were no bones or skin, else that would be the end of my eating.
Years passed, and I split with my partner, and found that I could no longer be bothered to cook food now I didn't have to wait on another person, so I started eating mainly ready meals, healthy option type ones. However, I discovered that a lot of my health problems weren't being helped by eating quorn, mushrooms, pasta (gave me terrible IBS, wind, etc.) I ate plenty of fruit and veg, and had a healthy diet in general but I have had a B12 deficiency for years and years, before I ever went veggie, and also thyroid problems. Anyhow, I decided to try some chicken again about 4 months ago now, and I found I could manage to eat it (I had tried bacon a few years back, and couldn't swallow it, I gagged!) So basically, I now eat chicken several times a week, I still eat veggie stuff too though, and have found my health really has improved. I've also managed to lose a stone in weight fairly easily over the past two months, so all in all, think I made the right decision. If I stop and think about it though, I still feel bad about eating chicken, but my health must come first. I still cannot walk down the meat aisle in a supermarket though, that makes me want to vommit, nor could I cook a raw chicken, I can only eat ready prepared meat in sauce etc, not anything with skin or bones. Sorry if that's too much info!

I turned my wife back. It was the smell of bacon in the morning and pepperoni on pizzawhen drunk that did it. She is not adverse to rare steak these days.
We only buy meat from our local butcher and it is all organic and from a max of 45 miles from the shop. |
