New Year without steak pie is like Christmas without turkey. I had mine when I got in this morning, totally blitzed And I had it again today for dinner and probably will at my aunties party later

We had steak pie, with links - a scottish must, with roasters and veg. Too many sprouts so I have an official exclusion zone around me for the rest of the evening

I had water and toast because my stomach wouldn't allow me anything else. Still recovering.

Take one Ayrshire butchers

Order well in advance

Collect on Hogmanay, allowing 30 mins to queue

Simmer at the size of the queue

Open car of beer whilst OH cooks in oven

Enjoy

New Year without Steak Pie is as unimaginable as Eastenders without a death in the festive season!

I didn't even know it was a tradition, but yes, I made steak pie today! How weird is that?
Actually, it wasn't really a proper steak pie, it was more a kind of Hungarian steak pie, made with braising steak, rosemary, onion, garlic, lots of paprika and topped with mashed sweet potato and mixed cheese. Still, not far off....

Had a lovely steak pie from my local and favourite butcher here in Dunblane. Superb meal served with roast and mashed tatties and a vegetable selection of fine beans, carrots and cauliflower,

Even better was that I made this myself (as a 38 year old male) to feed my parents and the other half's brother and wife.

In the meantime she and the kids buggered of to visit friends in Inverness leaving me home- alone this New Year. Back to topic, Steak Pie is an assumed Scottish traditional New Year's meal.

We had steak pie for dinner today, reduced salt, but the steak was awful. I left it to late to buy from the butcher, so bought in the supermarket - big mistake.

That sounds divine!

Is that really a tradition? I've honestly never heard of it. I wonder how I missed that one.

O/T but we used to have an ostrich farm near us during the ostrich meat fad a few years back!

Yeah if I'm ever home with the family, we have steak pie on Hogmanay!
I did think it might be Scottish tradition but kinda assumed it was just a family thing!

Yes, it is. My mother made steak and kidney pie for every New Year's Eve party. I don't follow the tradition, but I did have steak pie today.

I must ask around at work, but nobody in my family has ever mentioned steak pie (with or without kidneys) at New Year, and none of my boyfriends who I've been with at New Year have ever mentioned it either. Maybe it's a regional thing... Or maybe my family is just odd.

Soz, I thought you were asking if it is a Scottish tradition.
