I started drinking six or so cups of coffee per day when I was temping in an office aged eighteen. After a couple of months I realised that I was permanently tired yet had trouble sleeping. I read in a magazine that drinking coffee after about 2pm and or in excess reduces the quality of your sleep so that on waking you still feel tired...and crave another coffee to "wake yourself up"..a vicious circle. I decided to quit the caffeine altogether so jacked in coffee, tea and chocolate bars:
I was soooooooooooooooo ill!
I can understand what it might be like to go cold turkey on drugs. I felt terrible, I couldn't sleep or eat, had permanent, horrible headaches, lost weight and had shivering attacks. I kept going, though, and after about three weeks of feeling horrendous and three further weeks of feeling pretty awful, I was cured, had bags of energy and was sleeping really well. I stayed off of coffee for the next five years although I did have the occasional cup of tea. Recently I have managed to treat myself to a morning coffee every now and then (never later than lunchtime or I am too jittery to sleep that night).
Keep going with your detox; it will be worth it in the end. Good luck!!
