Just before the new year, me and my otherhalf had a spectacularly nasty break up which left me in a very bad way. I was drinking too much and decided to get my own back by phoning her boss and telling him what had gone on, just so I could feel better about myself (pathetic, I know). I disguised my number and didn't tell him who I was, but ultimately couldn't bring myself to say anything of consequence. I wasn't rude, or abusive-just cryptic, and I only did it the once.

Can I get in trouble for that? Does it constitute a nuisance phone call, and could it be traced etc? I know it could have been a horrendously bad thing to do, but I was so hurt and pettiness just took over.

yes it could be classed as a nuisance call - but dont worry i expect he saw the hilarious side of it!! i know i would. i did kind of the same thing - i rang my own team leader when i was in a club pissed up and next day in work she gave me a disciplinary, but dont worry. at the end of the dat its only a phone call and it can be traced by the network provider.

Could I face jail?

No chance - the namby-pamby liberals have taken over the asylum now. You have to kill someone to stand even a small chance of gaol these days.

I'm just terrified that one stupid mistake that I deeply regret could mess my life up.

Actually, crimes against property, as opposed to a person, seem to have higher penalties these days.

I once rang my boss one night when I was pi**ed, to tell her what I thought of her.

At the last moment I chickened out as she answered the phone, and I said "Do you know who this is?"

"No", she said.

"Good", I said and put the phone down.

Never heard another word about it.

Can you get into trouble? - In theory, yes!

Will you get into trouble? - probably not, too trival to put any resource into finding out who/where you are - even if they could be ar$ed.

FFS, you can't get into trouble for making one cryptic phone call!

The only way you could conceivably get into trouble by making a single phone call were if it were seriously threatening or admitting or inciting illegality. Even then it would need to have been recorded as otherwise it's just someone else's word against yours.

Just relax and DON'T DO IT AGAIN!
