Name: John Loughton
Age: 20
From: Edinburgh
Talent: Politician

John is chairman of the Scottish Youth Parliament and was the first teenager ever appointed to the position.

He manages a team of staff, most of whom are in their 30s and 40s.

He hopes to run for office next year and is studying for a politics and sociology degree. Tackling child poverty in the UK is one of his main aims.

John says he would like to show the world "that being intelligent and politically active doesn't mean you have to be boring and geeky". He would also like to see a change in attitude towards red-haired people.

Will get the "Braveheart" Scottish vote that saw Leon and David Sneddon romp to victory against superior opposition in X-Factor 4 and Fame Academy, plus his support in fighting for respect for redheads will also help him attract another fierce sector of support, in a contest where very few people actually vote.

Young and probably without the skeletons in his closet that dog politicians twenty or thirty years his senior, he is honing his skills to be elected as a representative of the people, and surely won't blow his chance in the BB house through bitching/fighting and/or any desperation to go topless in Nuts or Zoo.

Should be odds on before the show has even started,...

Scottish people are basically the best. Being Scottish myself I want to see a Scot in the Big Brother house

One scottish winner in 8 series of BB and 5 series of Celeb BB. John's going to win this and make it a double

Well, I've certainly warmed to him - that took guts! I'd have been mortified but he just got stuck in

He did well, and he's got mostly the textbook right attitude to have. Much more important to win a party for the group than a place in the final.

Gave up a tiny bit too easily in the task, but showed some guts, and did pretty much his best.

Some of it was pretty tough for him to do but he pulled it off well.

Could you be any more patronizing? Stereotypes aside, however, I think John is a serious contender, in terms of character, intelligence, and likability. Granted, being the focus of attention in the first episode may be a distinct advantage, although equally it could have been a distinct disadvantage.

don't see anything patronising, just a clear analysis of why the traits john has are the same that helped leon jackson, nicola roberts, david sneddon, and michelle mcmanus, all win their reality tv shows. three of the four were big underdogs to win their series (sneddon was favourite). my post that you have quoted was also made several hours before the first episode.

simon cowell repeatedly and deliberately used the word "braveheart" to describe Leon in the final episode to drum up the "braveheart vote". if its good enough for simon cowell, its good enough for me.

What are those common traits exactly? John and Nicola had red hair. John, Leon, David, and Michelle were Scottish. John and Michelle were overweight. Why cite 'the [mythical] "Braveheart" Scottish vote' as the common denominator?

Well, it's not good enough for me, nor for most Scottish viewers - or do you still assert that Scottish viewers are less capable of nonpartisan discrimination than viewers from other parts of the UK?

Kind of pains me to support an overdog (if there is such a word) - have never chosen as a favourite the bookie's favourite. But I can't help it - he is just so darn likeable.
