Cheese and Bacon Soup/Dip

My dad always made this for me a while ago, being from up North he said it was something his mum always used to make. Anyway, it's delicious, and id like to make it. It's like a soup/dip to soak up bread with, and its usually a cheesy soup with bacon in it, i think its a bit creamy too.

Anyway i can't get hold of the recipe, anyone else know what im going on about?

It sounds american to me... this any good? I guess if you wanted it thicker/creamier, add less milk and more cheese?
