DSL channel picture breaks up
markell76
04-01-2008
My parents have had Tiscali TV for a few weeks now but suffer from the picture regularly breaking up and losing lip sync when viewing channels provided over DSL.

I suspected the DSL connection wasn't fast enough so I ran a speedtest from speedtest.net and it showed the line speed at 5.5mbps when the tiscali box was turned off, and 2.2 mbps when viewing a DSL channel. so I am guessing you Tiscali TV uses about 3mbps.

These speeds look alright to me, plenty of spare bandwidth.

I tested without any phones or filters attched to show that it wasn't a filter problem, still the problems occur.

Tiscali are sending out an engineer in a weeks time, does anyone have any ideas how to resolve the issue before then?

cheers

Mark

Just make a fuss on the phone and they should send someone round with a new box.

At the moment it is hard enough to find any of the Indians that speak enough English to even understand the issue!!

I thought Tiscali Call Centers were in the UK not India

I am an old HC customer and have been upgraded to a wireless broadband connection with a telsey stb.

I have noticed a couple of things since the change, as the original poster i have the lip sync problems(this is caused when im loading a heavily graphical web page) and changing channels rectifies it untill the next time it happens.

Also with the telsey box my picture is not as good as it was with the old silver box, i have set it to 16.9 but the clarity is very poor
Im happy with my wireless broadband but feel like im sacrificing my picture quality for it.

I didnt mean to hijack this thread but we have similar problems

It's fact though, explaining a complicated problem to someone in an overseas call centre can be difficult, especially if it's not covered by their script. Of course I'm sure they speak far better English than most of us speak their language, but it does add to the difficulties in getting a problem fixed.

I get the impression that customer service is in Scotland, and tech support is split between Scotland and India. If you call in the daytime you usually get Scotland, if you call in the evening you get India.

When you ring Tiscali, you initially get put through to India, As a previous post says, they really struggle when you deviate from the script. Eventually they redirect you to a call centre in the UK, but this is often sales, not very useful when trying to report a problem!

Masai - this isn't being racist, i'm simply saying that I have spent a lot of time this week on the phone to Indians who don't speak very good English.

You must be doing something wrong. You need to listen to the recorded message and select the right option.
All IPTV tech support is handled in Scotland, 0871 222 3311 opt 1, opt2, opt 2

Tiscali Engineer came out and replaced the Set top box, works brilliantly now. I must say I am really impressed with the choice of channels and VOD on Tiscali, at an amazing price too.
The only downside is the interface is a bit slow and complicated compared to SKY.
