Anyone with something specific to plug - it is understood that it is generally a career boost, but if they have something in the pipeline then they can publicise it normally

Mark Frith

Who there can be problems with, but would not like to see banned outright:
BBC employees (claims of favouritism) - this is highly unlikely though!
Very young contestants as then you get "but they're only **"
Older contestants - personally I really liked Willie and Stephanie, but older contestants seem to be voted out early
Eastenders actors - if only for one year!
Stage school products - but then you'd only have sportsoeople left, so unlikely!”

Agree pretty much with your banned list.

One of my pet peeve's is that "oh but they're only**" drives me bonkers

I really wouldn't want to get rid of all older contestants but I do think that they need to be physically fit....I mean I've heard Arlene can still do the splits for example...so as long as they can cope with the training I quite like having a few older contestants.

"Oh, but they're only **" makes me want to hit things. If anything, younger contestants are theoretically fitter, bendier, more agile, have had fewer 'duff' moments in their career...

I wouldn't like to see a ban of the older contestants - I loved Stephanie and wish she'd been on it longer, ditto Willie Thorne. Both in good shape for their age. Loved Stephanie's wit, and wanted to pet Willie (the look on his face when all the boys shouted "Go Willie"... bless!). Older contestants definitely bring something to the show; my concern is that however endearing or witty or physically capable they are, they always seem to be the first to go

You've got a terrible downer on WAGs, you lot. I have come to know a few in my job, and though I previously would have said the same thing, I have had my eyes opened a bit, and am prepared to say that at least 50% are not the shallow, worthless creatures we take them for. 1 or 2 are fairly high on my list of 'nice clients', strangely though they are the ones who were 'celebrities before football'.

To add: Richard and/or Judy.

I agree. Anyone under 24 should be excluded, unless they're from the sports field. They're far too whingy and whiny....male and female. I pity any strictly pro that has to train them.
More maturity required - particularly for the male celebs. I'm in Arlenes camp here....

I know Victoria Beckham is a WAG - but she to me isn't as bad as someone like Alex Curran. She was and is Spice Girl which is separate to anything David has done.

What about Anita Dobson as the token 'oldie'?

(Sorry, just realised I've put this in wrong thread)

There seems to be a consensus against wags, soapstars, oldies, youngsters and the vacuous nonentities of reality tv, but have you wondered how difficult it must be to put together a team of celebs for a series?

Firstly, they have to cover a broad range of 'perceived' ability. In other words, you have to select a few people who you would reasonably expect to leave within the first 4 weeks. Albeit with the benefit of hindsight, it'd be no good having Alesha, Gethin, Matt, Mark, Darren, Jill, Zoe and Natasha all in the same series. You have to have some kindly duffers in there somewhere.

Secondly, you need to match personality and physical size to the available professionals (Ola Jordan and Peter Crouch? I think not.)

Thirdly, you have to consider which professionals are due a 'legend' and which ones get the 'corpse' and then match them in line with the personality/physical size thing.

Finally, they have to be (if possible) attractive, personable and, above all, available.

I reckon one more series and we've run out of people.

Still no excuse for WAGs. I can live with the Eastenders characters/Holby nurses but not WAGs, please. I even quite like the older contestants, especially when they have a good attitude like Stephanie or Willie, or Lesley Garrett.

The bar has been set quite high this year - so yes - I agree, one more series and then curtains - its over. The professionals too, seem to be carving out careers in other forms of media too - never before have I seen so many of them guest listed on TV shows, radio. So maybe they sense things too...

Well you're lucky on that one; she did Ballroom/Latin as a kid so is inelligible (was mentioned on Baby Ballroom).

I liked Stephanie Beacham, she was elegant and witty and shouldn't not have gone so early - however when an older contestant goes a bit further e.g. Gloria Hunniford and Esther Rantzen and has to wear a ridiculously short skirt for the Latin then it really is a turn off. With all due respect 60+ knees are not a pretty sight.

As for WAGs - I didn't expect to like Penny, but I thought she was lovely; there are some, however, I wouldn't want to see and Colleen McLoughlin along with Alex Curran is one of them. I'm sure I could think of several more if pushed.

They mentioned Tracey Emin

I think I'd rather have her! For one thing, there would be comedy value in seeing her actually cleaned up and in some of those dresses! I saw her interviewed once, and came away with a little bit of a better opinion of her.

Interestingly, it seems as though SCD is becoming completely respectable - not necessarily a publicity machine like I'm A Celebrity, but as an enjoyable experience, that doesn't have to suggest desperation for publicity/you're a has-been etc. Besides, her doing SCD would be far more of a shock than almost anything else!

I think the only three people that would actually stop me watching the whole series would be;
Kerry Katona
Jade Goody
Jamie Oliver.

It's maybe not so shocking.. one of her early film/video works is called "Why I Never Became a Dancer". It's one of my fav pieces of hers.
