From the philips website for a 42PF7520D/10
Case 1 you will need a vga cable case 2 you will need a DVI cable (note you can get DVI-A and DVI-D cables) I try to get the cable that will cover both. (see http://www.pacificcable.com/DVI_Tutorial.htm) See in full here http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/d...n=42PF7520D/10 If your monitor output of your computer is Analogue, connect the VGA cable to the VGA/DVI Adaptor. Connect the VGA/DVI Adaptor to the DVI socket '(DVI In)' at the bottom of the TV. If your monitor output of your computer is Digital, connect the DVI cable to the DVI socket '(DVI In)' at the bottom of the TV. Only when your PC is DVI connected, then will the PIP function be enabled. Click Attachment for connection diagram. |

I bought a five metre DVI cable here, very cheap. What is the output from your PC, DVI or VGA? |

Look around the back of your PC. The blue socket on the left is a VGA, the one on the right is DVI.

That's easy then, you want a VGA to DVI cable.
The only thing that can go wrong is the DVI is the wrong gender, best thing to do is look at the TV socket and see whether it has holes - to stick the cable into. Or whether it has pins sticking up - so the cable end would beed to have the holes in it. Hence the terms Male & Female ![]() http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130563 Found this one, £3.81. This has pins sticking out so it's male DVI - if your TV DVI socket has holes then this is what you need. (If their picture is correct) |

Not sure what dual link is, really.
![]() Picture in picture, I assume you mean. Don't think you can with an analogue PC output, from the link above. |

You can get a little plastic adaptor for a couple of quid that will change the gender of the end of the cable, if it doesn't.
So fingers crossed.

Re what cables do i need.. wrong one? so now what?
recieved it today, not only is it too short, but i tried it on laptop, i put tv into pc mode and nothing...
think its wrong as the dvi connector has more pins that the one going into my tv? looks like im never going to get it to work. ![]() Last edited by dawn125 : 10-01-2008 at 14:44. Reason: title was wrong |

Did you configure your PC to work with dual monitors?
You will get a blank screen otherwise. I'm assuming the DVI lead fitted into the TV - my cables come with different numbers of pins and still work. |

Cables
Hi, no not configured pc to work with dual monitors as the cable wasnt long enough to reach my pc, so i connected vga to laptop and put in the dvi in the tt, i then switched to pc mode on tv and it was a blank screen but could here normal tv with it.
maybe there isnt a problem with the pins, i looked on a adapter that i have for my tv and that had less pins, i dont know if that would matter or not, but the cable was single link and maybe i needed a dual link, (still dont know what that is by the way lol). just want to watch the films and 40d from my pc to tv, why isnt nothing simple, (Except me of course) lol

Can't you get your PC closer to the TV, then go into Display Properties and check if the second display shows up.
If you have an Nvidia graphics card you can find the Nvidia Control Panel in CONTROL PANEL, there you can set up dual monitors and test them. Other than that a longer cable.

Cant move it really because i will ony need it to watch stuff online, then ill have to move it back, as for the longer cable i was thinking the same thing but ive been to;ld that 5mtrs is the longest advised length to watch pc movies as the quality starts to fail. dunno if thats true or not but if it is im well stuffed, and i guess i will have to wait till i buy a new pc then just use this as a media station.

They have 7.5 metre, 15 even at that link I gave you.
Shouldn't make much of a difference. Watching your PC on a big TV is worth the hassle.
