Seasick Steve
If you saw Jools' Hootenanny you probably know who I'm talking about.
Steve is a brilliant performer- eccentric, original, funny, daring, with lots of character and his three-string trance machine (an old guitar ). I wanted to go see Steve in October, but other commitments prevented that happening, which is a shame because, while his album Dog House Music is brilliant, he's IMO at his best live. Any other fans on DS?

We've watched him the last 2 years on Hootenanny. Mesmerising performance and couldn't believe it when they did a close up of his guitar and just saw the three strings! Brilliant guy, and I am sure he is great live too.

He ****ing fantastic seen him live at the Summer Sundae weekender in Leicester last year. He really captivates his audience and his music goes through you, moves you physically and emotionally. The sound he creates is amazing too with just that amped up 3-string.

well my wife got me the album last monday as a as a surprise pressie coz i enjoyed the session on Jules holland. I came home from work on friday night and she asks me if i want to go and see him live at the birmingham carling academy on saturday night.
wel i went on my own expecting probably a couple of hundred people max, and the place was rammed. he was amazing, really good show, and in his words, no shit, shame he could only do about an hour and a quarter but apparently the academy is a club afterwards. best 315.50 i have paid for a ticket in years, if you get the chance, go and see him. |

He's totally unique and that's why I love him. His silly lyrics put a grin on my face:

I saw him live last year at the big chill, definitely one of the highlights of the weekend. I'm not normally into that kind of music, but there's something about his music and personality thats mesmerising. A world away from the usual manufactured pop dross that saturates the market.

I loved it on the Hootenanay when he introduced his Tennessee drum machine - an old tea chest he stamped on!

Thought I'd bump this because I saw Dog House Music advertised last night on VH1!
![]() I really hope Steve gets more exposure- at the moment it looks like he's going to remain a cult artist for quite some time- but maybe that's better for him. I can really visualise him as the kind of guy who'd reject the whole celebrity ideal and just keep playing his dog house music
