I remember semolina - they always served it on a plate for some reason, even though it had the consistency of custard, with a big dollop of seedless jam in the middle. I thought it was the most glamorous dessert in the world ever when I was seven. I loved it so much.

Lumpy, cold mashed potato. Lumpy, cold mashed swede. Big, fat sausages with bits of innards and the odd eyeball. Cold processed peas - excuse me, need to dash to the bathroom :vommit:

(Not pleasant memories as you may have guessed)

Oh I remember one time sprinkling the salt onto the raisin tart, for a laugh. The dinner supervisor came over and exclaimed "That's salt! Not sugar." I pretended I didn't know and got given a replacement

My favourite school dinner was cheese pie, mashed potato, and tinned tomatoes, usually served on Fridays

Its my first post here and what a great subject to start on!! this brought back some memories of my very first school dinner (a very long time ago!) it was liver with lumpy mash, then semolina with prunes - all the things I hate!!

My favourites were fish fingers and chips, and jam sponge, and I even liked the runny custard with it!!

scotch broth

mince
cottage pie (sometimes with beans in it)
sliced roast pork and apple sauce
sliced roast beef and gravy, sometimes with dumplings
sausages'n'onion gravy
always fish on Fridays....(cant remember if it was chips with it, or the usual mash)

scoops of mashed potato and turnip. peas, sliced boiled carrot, cabbage

lots of lovely desserts with custard - fly cemetry, fly cemetry with fudge on top, caramel flan, raspberry and coconut sponge, syrup sponge, eve's pudding, pineapple upside down cake....

I'm sure there's more!

We have pretty much the same almost every day, there is little variation. But the ones I liked best were these:

Pasta & cheese in tomato and basil sauce
Slice of original pizza
Rice with chicken in this sort of sweet and sour sauce
Apple crumble with custard or chocolate cake with custard.

Things off the top of my head are:

Sausage Pie - Looked like vomit, but was actually delicious!!
Chicken Supreme - Always thought it looked awful so never had it until one day when it was the only thing left, and I actually quite liked it
Chocolate sponge with green peppermint sauce.
