I brought my daughter a portable dvd for xmas and was working fine until last night when she said that the creen went black. Thinking that the battery had gone out left it untill this evening to charge it up, but no power at all and not charging. Any ideas why it could be or houkd i just tske it back to argos for a replacement, will this effect the 3 years replacement i took out on it?

Take it back to Argos.

To stay strictly within your rights you should get a refund as it's 'not of merchantable quality' and 'not fit for the purpose for which it was purchased' then buy the product again. That way the 1 year Argos guarantee and the 3 yr extended warranty will start from that date.

If Argos offer to replace it make sure you get a new receipt for the new one to cover you as above.

Legally speaking, once you accept a replacement the company does not have to give you a refund if the 2nd item fails at a later date. They are only obliged to repair it.
