Digital Video Camera
I have a digital video camera GR-D53EK it has started to give me problems when i turn it on.A message comes on saying lens cap is on then no clear picture appears. The view through the view finder is in b/w and can make out no images but light and dark.Does it sound like a fixable problem or would it be cheaper to buy a new one?

Your problem rang a bell with me too.
I own a 5-year old GR-DX25EK which hasn't been used for about two years apart from playing back someone else's tapes for copying to PC. I charged it a few days before Xmas and on Xmas Day went to use it to get the same problem, although after a quick on/off it was OK again. I went back to it after reading your post and lo and behold it's doing the 'Lens Cap On' thing again. No amount of turning on and off would clear it. However, I did notice that the battery indicator was in its last segment, and now I've charged it again, it seems to boot up reliably. As you imply though, if it's a permanent fault, given the price of new ones (especially miniDV tape camcorders which they're practically giving away), it makes you wonder if those dreaded words 'uneconomic repair' don't apply. If it's only a new battery needed, as it may well be in my case, then I'm sure e-bay can oblige! I suppose the way to check if yours is the same problem is to try it with the charger plugged in and see if that makes any difference. If so, it may only be your battery that's letting you down. |
