Maybe a stupid one.

Is it a 19" WS TV, or a 19" 4:3 TV?

How far from the TV will you be sitting (laying)?

After doing a bit of searching, it seems you can get widescreen 17" models, but not 19". So, if you've seen a 19" model that you like chances are it'll be a 4:3 screen.

So what I'm looking for is a 17" and they are widescreen?
So a 19" don't come in a widescreen format. I seen one that says 19" Widescreen TV and some didn't say that the 19" are widescreen. I was getting a bit confused. |

The screen measurement has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on whether it is 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio. it is perfectly possible that it could be either.
Though I have noticed that 16:9 screens tend to have even numbered screen sizes and 4:3 screens odd numbered sizes. Though there are likely exceptions to that rule. And it seems that rule is more likely to apply to 20 inch and above. It is also quite possible that if the description of the set does not explitly mention widescreen that it is more likely to be 4:3 |

Many movie DVDs are released in a format that is wider than 16:9. So even on a widescreen TV you still end up with bars top and bottom. though obviously the bars are narrower than they would be on a 4:3 TV. The only way to eliminate the bars is to use a Zoom mode to enlarge the centre portion of the image to fill the screen. Trouble is this crops the image at the sides and maybe even top and bottom so you lose some of the action. |

Yeah thats true but when I watch widescreen dvd's on my 4.3 and keep in on that setting the picture becomes stretched. I'll have a look round to see what I can find. Thanks for your help. |
