Grappa Appreciation Thread

I was just wondering if there are any other grappa appreciators out there on DS For me, it is one of life's great treats ... so much more than a digestivo!!

For those not aware of this most mighty of drinks, I attach a link to a rather nice little article which sums up very well the allure of this seemingly unprepossessing drink

http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/genie-in-a-bottle

The only objection I have to the article is the idea that one might give a bottle of grappa as a present - I'm afraid I would much rather keep it for myself

Anyway, I would welcome any recommendations from fellow DS drinkers - I myself will be having a glass of grappa from the Valle d'Aosta tonight

I do like Grappa, but I much prefer Raki from Crete - made in a similar way, but tastes amazing.

I don't think either are as enjoyable in England as in the Med sun though

I must admit I've never tried Raki but I'll make a point of doing so I agree with you about where you drink them - must be the warmer temperatures ...

Point is, grappa is not born to be enjoyed in the Med sun; it comes from the coldest areas of Italy, basically Alto Adige and Friuli (the Val D'Aosta one, although really good, came later - ever seen this?

That's the way grappa is drank in Val d'Aosta...) and it was meant to be for really cold days......

I agree with Asphodel .e.. i'd rather drink it cold but in the heat than cold (or warm) in the cold - despite where it comes from.
