I have a Sony KDL40W2000 linked via HDMI to a Sony RDRGX350 and a Sky HD box. I am happy with the visual aspect of the set-up but the in-built speaker on the TV doesn't work too well at low volume. I would like to upgrade and would welcome any advice on what equipment I need and recommendations as to the best system to buy.

My requirements are for something fairly compact and robust (I have children aged 2 and 4) and I would like to play music through the speakers. Is it possible to get a good result using a standard 2-speaker set-up? (Because of the the children, having a 5.1 system is perhaps asking too much.) My budget is around £500/£600.

Thank you.

going for a 5.1 system shouldnt be out of reach.... as long as the speakers are (if you get my drift). as long as you can "sell" wall mounting the surround speakers to the missus they should be out of reach for a long while yet ! of course the thing to look for with a subwoofer in your case is that the speaker cone faces the floor. this renders it out of the reach of little fingers. should get plenty of options at that budget.
cheers

I can't vouch for the quality but maybe this all-in-one 5.1 system may suit... No satellite speakers. http://www.johnlewis.com/Home+and+Ga...9/Product.aspx
