When comparing LCD TV's is it advisable to go for a TV with a 24hz/fps option as well as the normal 60hz.

Im asking this as the TV we were looking at was the Bravia 40" KDL-40W2000U, and had nearly mind my mind up, when read a review of the set that stated the following.

"apart from it not having a 24hz/fps option. This means that HD signals from players (HDDVD or BLURAY) will have to be coverted to 60hz for the TV, and this causes motion judder - basically this means it looks like it's running at 5 or 10 frames per second, action is jerky during action scenes, panning shots etc. Planet Earth, for example, looks absolutely terrible when the camera is moving. "

So as we do have a PS3 (bluray) would it be a wiser option to go for the more expensive Sony Bravia 40" KDL-40V3000U that has the 24hz option, and therefore keeping our options open for the future when we may well get a HD DVD player, Any advice on this issue or subject of 24hz and 60 hz, would be really appreciated

Well some people have little or no issue with the conversion from 24fps to 30fps when watching HD DVD or Blu-ray media on a HD display but some really hate the judder, it's like the 50hz flicker which some people can't see and other can.
I've been watching HD movies at 1080i/30 and doesn't bother me a bit on my LCD but I will certainly be buying a 1080p/24 capable display next time around.

So 1080p/24 processing (multiplied to 48 or 72) is the best way to go for someone with a HD optical source, are you in a position to get the lower spec screen demo'd with a PS3 and a Blu-ray movie?

Are there any smaller displays that accept a 1080p/24 input? I'm thinking of replacing the kitchen TV with an LCD and (at some later date) upgrading the main TV to a 1920x1080 that can do 24fps, and getting a splitter to send the PS3 signal to both TVs via HDMI. However, I'm guessing that wouldn't work too well if the PS3 output signal is at a resolution and refresh rate with which the smaller TV can't cope. Any thoughts/ideas?

It depends how much later your date is. It won't be that long before all semi decent TVs accept 1080p24 so if you were thinking couple of years then wait.

A splitter with HDMI might cause problems with HDCP especially in the future - I'm not saying it will just it may well do.
