Image going Dark...

I've got a DVD Recorder, which we've had about 2.5 years. It's an LG DR4912.

Randomly, the picture will go dark, no matter if we're watching a DVD, or the Aerial/Sky transmissions through the DVD Player. It's not very dark, but I'd say it gets to about 50% the brightness of the original picuture.

I don't think it's overheating, as this can either happen 30 seconds after it's on (from a cold start), or 30 minutes, or 2 hours... its just quite random.

So... what do you reckon the issue is?! Any tips on anything I can try?
