Can you help everytime I switch to installation and freeview the prompt states the aerial is not attached I have just purchased new one to one aerial 29.99 at Maplins upon searching no channels are found and the analogue reception on the 3 channels found is crap. I live in Maidenhead and reception is generally ok. Can any1 recommend different aerial or explain what I am doing wrong

I assume the one to one is an indoor aerial. It certainly sounds like it is not good enough. Were you using an indoor aerial before?

The best you can do with that aerial is move it around to try and get the best reception.

To be honest most people require an outdoor or at least a loft aerial, you're lucky if an indoor is good enough.

You'll probably get better help if you repost this question in the media zone\terrestrial\technical section of this forum as the guys there really know their stuff on this sort of problem.

You need an external wideband aeriel to activate the freeview reciever. It will not auto search the channels or may struggle to get a few. If its a set with an analogue reciever too then again you may need to connect it to a better aeriel not an internal one.

If this is a bedroom portable then to get the best from freeview you must connect it to a wideband aeriel.
If there is freeview in any other part of the house try to tap into this using an amplifier distibuter. Maplins stock these.
If you are lucky and have the wideband aeriel on the roof or in the loft then by bringing the cable into the amplifier you can then distribute the reception to other outlets.
