New DVD recorder - scart input inferior
KrisB

I have just replaced a Liteon DVD recorder with the Samsung DVD-SH853M. I have a Sky+HD box connected via Scart for recording from Sky, and there is a loss of quality that I did not experience with the Liteon. In fact, the Samsung tries to compensate when, for example, a very light scene follows a darker scene. Is there a problem with my Samsung?

sky av 2 not rgb

so sky av 1 to samsung rgb IN socket if the samsung has it ?

on page 36 of manual it tells you how to make av 1 RGB out to tv

and on page 107 it tells you av 2 is rgb compatible

so sky av1 to dvd-rec av 2

you can then watch sky through hdmi which will improve the picture OR watch on dvd-rec channel on telly with RGB loop through

make sure scarts are fully pinned and good quality / screened or marketed as oxygen free £10 to £15 each

Already setup as Sky av1 to Samsung av2 with a high-quality scart (it was a perfect picture on my old Liteon)

also I watch Sky via HDMI1 and Samsung via HDMI2.

I'm not convinced av2 is actually RGB !

This review seems to indicate that it doesn't record RGB. http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews95918.html

If this is true and you can then I'd send it back. This is not good for a modern DVDR.
