Just had an email from John Lewis saying " ... 40XF355D ... is now unlikely to be back in stock ... "!

Anyone know if it's about to be discontinued by Toshiba (so soon) - I understand that is was only released into the UK Market back in September!

I have just bought this TV, its amazing so why would they want to discontinue it after such a short life?

I hope they haven't - maybe it's just John Lewis Online that are dropping it, I know new stock is expected at their stores, MK for example this week!

It does look fantastic - best looking HDTV i've seen!

If you don't mind me asking how good does yours display with just Freeview SD?

I will be totally honest, its not the best SD picture I have seen but it is definately not the worst, I am not a big spec head so I am just saying it as I see it, its not as good as my brothers 42"Panasonic plasma (i think plasma usually has better SD pictures than LCD anyway but I might be wrong) but its better than my old Philips LCD.
Dont get me wrong, I would not change it for any other mid-range flat screen on the market, upscaled DVD's and Blu-ray films through my PS3 look amazing, my son has Madagasgar on DVD and my jaw hit the floor when I played it through an upscaler, the detail was amazing.

The pc monitor at their MK store yesterday showed that the John Lewis Partnership had 150 40XF355D's due in the warehouse this week but I was told earlier today that they have already gone to customers who'd ordered!

So it seems the 30 John Lewis stores only averaged 5 each until the next delivery, not sure when, I think the salesman said about 8 weeks.

Rather than being discontinued he said it's one of their best-sellers and that the price might well go back up following the competitive Xmas holiday sales.

Could be 'sales' talk of course ...

Anyway, luckily I had been in the store at exactly the right time and managed to get them to reserve one - without the box, which had been 'unacceptably scuffed' - for £899 including the usual JL 5yr warranty!

They held it for me until closing time tonight and I have just done the deal on the phone for 'bubble-wrapped' delivery next week!

So, no box, but do I care ...

It's not really about how good it looks out of the box though is it really. It's about how good it looks with a couple of years use. That's if it's still running.heh

I have just taken delivery of this model this week.

Well pleased with it.

My local Currys had sold five last weekend.

Seems to be popular !!
