How do i stop a DMR-EX87EB from playing one title after another

I have just purchased a Panasonic DMR-EX87EB and after playing a recorded title on the hard drive it just continues on to the next recorded title without a break, is there a way i can get it to just play the title i have selected and not any others, any help or advice would be very welcome.

I have the EX77 and this bugs me, too. I find it particularly annoying when carrying out an edit process and trying to find the end of a particular title - as you say, the d*** thing just runs on from one recording into the next.

Let's hope someone clever out there has the solution.

Have a look at the manual page 64 - Seamless play - I have not used this myself but it sounds like it is in the area of concern.

I would say itsabox, is correct, select no then the playback should stop at the end of the program.

I have tried both settings on and off and it seems to make no difference.
I contacted Panasonic support and although the operator was not aware of the "feature " on checking with a colleague she said the only way to replay just one recording was to create a playlist ???.

What editing are you doing. I use partial delete a lot for adverts and taking out the extra padding at the end and when using the time-slip to go to the end it will not go past the end of the recording onto the next one.

I have not had the machine for that long but i have found even if i play a program i have edited it still goes onto the next program when i select and replay a recording..

Try going into the navigation screen and going to the programme you want to watch and pressing the pause button to mark it and then play. It might just play the one recording then. Not sure if this would work or not. I just watch what I want and then press stop.

Ok scratch the above just tried it does not work. all the seamless play does when switched off is blacken the screen before going onto the next recording.

The advice from Panasonic is correct.

The only workaround is using a Playlist.

That would involve going to Functions / To others / playlists, creating a Playlist of the single title you wish to play.... Then returning to the Direct navigator, pushing the green button, and selecting the Playlist you just created and pushing Play.
...which for everyday use is not really a solution at all.... but it's that or the stop button.

Seamless play only applies to RAMs and -RW's in VR mode.... and only when playing / copying Playlists.

Any editing points at chapter boundaries are fractionally moved as required to give clean picture transitions when Seamless play is invoked.

When 'Seamless Play' is Off , the edit boundaries stay where they were made, but a small pause can occur at the transition point, when playing back the Playlist.

Someone once raised the significant point that this behaviour can be a real problem in households with small children... that the unit can wander onto material regarded as unsuitable for them.

[ Personally I happen to think there is no such thing ...but that is an entirely separate and irrelevant issue]

The 'Ratings' System which can limit access, only applies the DVD's - Not hard disc material.

I opined that he should bring it to Panasonic's attention because it appeared to be a design oversight.

There are a set of such machine bahaviours that cause significant irritation to users ... another typical one being sound playing from any title selected whilst in the Direct Navigator.

These would be very easy switchable options to provide in setup menus.
Probably the reason they do not, is it is in conflict with their drive to simplify the machine as much as possible and remove anything non-essential to basic operation... which is complex enough.

They could still EASILY stick all the complicated stuff in a "here's the complicated stuff, don't mess unless you want to " menu.

If they want to simplify things they should start with the appallingly written manual! The machine might be easier to understand then.
I thought my previous Sony's manual was bad but Panasonics' is awful.

Hear, hear! If only someone from Panasonic was hearing, too!

Thank God we have the great people on this and other forums (notably AVForums) to help us understand how to use our machines.

Well said!

I have noticed over and over that Panny, Sky and Sony, to mention 3, use the forums to 'help' and do customer research.
I have been helped by Sky engineers when installing my Sky system.
Much better info than most of the engineers/fitters do when they come to your house!

My suggestion to this problem is simple - make sure that what you want to play is the last on the list and it will stop at the end naturally!

Using DVD-RAM disk(s) is a simple way to shuffle your prog to the end?

All the best
