I have a Panasonic 36" Widescreen TV bought in November 2000. It is a discontinued model but was purchased brand new (old stock) with full warranty etc. The main reason for buying this model was not price but colour - it is black whereas ALL other 36" TVs are now silver which I do not like and which my wife refused point blank to have! My dilemna is that the TV has a fault - there is a line of distortion running from the top of the screen to the bottom about 2/3 of the way across. It is very noticeable on bright pictures and especially with digital TV. Normally I would not hesitate to complain and call out the engineer (they come out to you for TVs this big!) but I am worried that they will want to replace the TV as I cannot see this fault being repairable unless the actual TV tube is replaced - ie it is probably cheaper for them to replace the TV itself! I dont want the TV replaced as the new Panasonic 36" TVs (although good feature wise are silver which I have explained is not an option (all of our other equipment is black and silver would look nasty in our house). What should I do - would this fault be repairable or would they want to replace the TV? Any ideas...
