LCD TV- picture question

I bought a Polaroid 15" Widescreen LCD TV from Currys yesterday for the bedroom.

However the TV has this patch in the top left hand corner which is lighter than the rest of the TV. I've found its very noticeable when watching a dark scene. (And once i'd spotted it it's hard to ignore) Also on the whole the TV doesn't display black very well.

I'd like to know is this normal for LCD TV's or just a one off?

I'm thinking of taking it back for a refund, as its not been out of the box long.

(Also anyone know a good small size LCD?)

Sounds like a fault to me ..... I'd take it back.

I have two LCD TV's and two monitors and none of them do this.

The little Goodmans 19" LCD (HD ready too! Handy for the 360 when I can't get the wife to let me have the big TV) I got for the bedroom is surprisingly good for the price.

^^^ This one. Got mine on offer in Makro so it only cost me about £170.

Try Tesco. Their LCD prices almost match those of Makro (plus VAT) just across the road here in Poole.

Thanks for the advice! Is it a good idea to go with a big brand name? I'm bit put off by the obscure brands...

I've seen a Bush in Argos that looks nicer (plus it might work with a oneforall remote)..

Just made me smile, that's all.

Unfortunately Bush IS an obscure brand - they went bust 25/30 years ago, and the name was bought up and just used as a badge on cheap gear.

For 'big' names I would suggest (in order):

Sony
Panasonic
Sharp
Toshiba
Samsung

These 'mostly' make their own TV's, Sony always have, and I've never seen anything else badged as Samsung?. The other three have all badged cheaper TV sets at one time or another - but much less than others.
