Any advice please.
Panasonic TX-42PX 70

Yesterday a imperfection has been discovered in the lower right hand quadrant of the screen. It appears to be behind the plastic protection cover and is particularly noticeable when the screen is displaying any dark or black images. The anomaly looks like a dent when viewed at an angle.

The set is about 2 months old and is it anything to worry about in the long term.

Basically is it worth pursuing?

Have sent Email to Dixon's Direct and awaiting reply.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

If you can see it when watching TV then yes (though since you've had it 2 months I guess you can't usually see it). If it doesn't interfere with viewing then I personally wouldn't go through the hassle of changing but I know that a lot of people on here would.

If it's faulty, then get it sorted now while it's under guarantee - presumably this would require replacement of the PDP?, and would cost more than you paid for the TV.

Get it replaced. It looks like a 'second' sold through Dixon's direct or ask for your money back.

No emails from Dixons Direct.

Rang them this morning.

Their Tech Guys said they would pick up the set, remove glass clean if necessary, would take about 10 days.

It should not affect the life of set.

So I will monitor this and contact them if necessary.:sleep::sleep:

I have a 50PX70 and am finding it hard to understand what you mean by "behind the plastic protective cover"?

My take on this is whether you can see it when viewing TV. If you can then you must get it fixed (no brainer) but if you can't I'd be wary about them taking it away and messing with it and bringing it back worse.

make sure you take photos of the screen before it leaves your house. so when its returned you can check for issues.

I would ring panny direct and ask if they can send someone out to look at it for you.

the life of the set 60,000 hours mate so i would not worry

Except Panasonic don't have a service organisation anyway (does any manufacturer?), so couldn't send anyone - assuming it's not a bought-out guarantee (it might be with Dixons?), all they could do is arrange for a local service agent to come out (who would probably just send a van to collect it).

This is the estimated life of the 'Plasma panel', based on how long it might take until it's too dark to watch - this isn't an estimate of the sets life, nor of how long the panel might last before going faulty (as opposed to 'wearing out').
