HD Ready 26" widescreen recommendations
Hello all,
Want to replace my analogue TV and figured a 26" widescreen is what will fit in my lounge. Apart from that I'm not too sure what I'm looking for in terms of features. To kick off with a concrete example why would I not want to buy: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...DBush.Bush.htm and if not what would make more sense for a cheapskate like me? Ta M |

You would not want to buy that because the cheap circuitry inside will make standard digital TV look like it's been to hell and back. Richer Sounds had some excellent Hitachis a while back for £349ish, my dad picked a 32" one up for less than that in John Lewis. Hitachi are really the only cheapish LCD I can recommend, otherwise start looking at Sony at Richer Sounds, they have a 26" for 399 and it will be streets ahead of a Bush.

It depends how much you want to spend.
If you're going for the cheapest set, then they're likely to be fairly similar - possibly related under the skin. According to others on this forum, Hitachi's are not that much better than some of the unbrandeds - I can't comment as I've not owned one. It's likely that if you buy a recognised brand - Toshiba, Samsung, Panasonic you'll get a set which has better sound and picture, but you will have to pay more to get one. |

OK, thanks.
Looks like the absolute minimum price is £399 for a Sony, say, rather than £299 for a Bush, so to speak ![]() That's what I need to know for starters. |

Ta M I have the Panasonic TX-26LXD70 and am very pleased with the results on both SD and HD. Infact I find it better on SD than any other TV I've seen of its size and (although an unfair comparison) larger ones too. |

The cheap Hitachi's are just Vestel sets, probably EXACTLY the same as a Bush and many other 'unbranded' sets!.

IMHO the best 26inch TV you can currently buy is the Panasonic TX-26LXD70 based on value for money and performance , fantastic with freeview sd picture looked faboulous with ps3 HDMI and xbox 360 HDMI, also has it hooked up to my desktop and looked great. little tweaking needed to get a great picture , TV support 1080p inputs via HDMI so ps3 was
![]() if you have a john lewis near you, get them to price match it against someone like empire direct ( one of there brick and motar stores not online) so you get the free 5 years warranty. I had this tv but traded up for a larger sony bravia but very impressed with the panasonic. |

I went down to PC World today and they had some Sky channel playing through all their TVs. The pictures looked pretty appalling (smeary and digital) and the assistant said that's what Freeview looks like too on an LCD.
I can't believe it's true though? If not then I'm thinking of going up to a 32" but hoping not to spend much more than £500. Any bargain/cheapskate recommendations in that bracket? Cheers M |

I can't believe it's true though? If you watch via an RGB SCART lead from Sky (or anything else) it's completely different - also, from it's in-built FreeView tuner it's fine as well. Simple answer - don't look at TV's at muppets where they can't even demonstrate them properly!

Yeah, shocking it was. Every screen looked like sh*t including a Sony hooked up to a games machine.

OK, well I am sorely tempted by the 32LXD70 which can be had for the same price as the 26" with 3 year warranty.
I have no HD stuff but may do in the future with Tiscali. My only concerns are performance with SD Freeview and LP DVDs recorded with my Pioneer 440 HX and the viewing distance at 4-6.5' at the dinner table in my lounge (it's 8' on the couch). Anyone care to reassure me? Ta! |
