Tom Tom help....
Lifegirl477

I know this should probably be in another section bnut this one is busier and im hoping someone can help. I have a normal Tomtom and attached it to the computer to update, it updated it to include the GPS fix software, now it can't decide where i am and keeps changing and therefore can't plan a route properly. It says im about 50 metres wide of where i am and in central London this can mean it being streets out. Does anyone know how i can reverse it or download something else to correct it. If nothing can be done I bought it last April at Curry's i still have the receipt is and was wondering if there is any way or getting it fixed/replaced under any kind of standard warranty because it isn't even a year old??

Any help would be appreciated, Cheers!

Have you been for a little drive just to see if it can get a proper fix on your location?

Yes, my OH was attempting to get to work in London but he couldn't because it kept changing its mind and he wasn't getting anywhere so he came home.

Have you tried re setting it? I have a tomtom 520 and on the bottom is a reset switch you press by inserting a cocktail stick or similar in to the hole

I posted a thread about a month ago when I downloaded the new V3 software onto my TomTom V2, I downloaded it as it appeared in the downloads box when I connected to TomTom Home, however I don't think it's been as acurate with distances as you say, and on mine it's been saying to take 3rd exits at roundabouts when it actually on the map it is highlighting the first. Wish I never downloaded it now - it was working fine before!

Have you not been able to reverse the changes then? Have you spoken to Tomtom direct or anything? Sorry to keep throwing questins at you but the OH is sitting across the room pretty grumpy at the whole situation!

I have tried resetting it but it didn't appear to do anything! Thanks for the idea though.

Why not restore it from a backup taken before you downloaded the new software?

I'm off to bed now but will be giving it a go on my way to work tomorrow but in the mean time any other ideas would be appreciated as the OH is going to refresh the page over the next few hours and see what other people would recommend.

Thanks for everything!

I haven't tried to reverse it or resetting it, tbh I'm worried i'll just end up corrupting the whole thing. I assume if you email TT you might get a reply but it's very annoying how one of their updates can make their own systems go so weird.

Oh, I forgot to mention one other consequence of that downloading that update on my unit was that it stopped running of fthe battery! Now I have to have it conected to the cigarette lighter whilst in the car for it to work (which is fine, but annoying if i'm indoors and just want to look at a route etc before setting off).

Just after Xmas the PC completely died and when it was fixed we lost everything like that, is there any way we could maybe use my parents back ups?? Is there anyway of getting this info from one computer to another or would i have to physically take mine to his machine? It's the same as ours and he would have a backup.

Well, the backups are just copies of the files on the SD card (I assume it's a model with the data on an SD card). If the parents backups are of the same model, just copy them across using Windows Explorer or My Computer.

I have had problems with TomTom software not recognising backups taken on different PCs but I just copied the files across no problem.

Good idea to perform a backup of what you have first, though.
