Old Crafty Hen, £2.79 a bottle. Last time I looked was in the 3 for £5 offer at tesco.
Innes and Gunn oak aged beer.
I noticed an Orkney beer called Skullsplitter on the internet. Probably a bit hard to find were I am, but the name makes me want to try it.

Has anyone ever met somebody who actually enjoys John Smiths Smooth? I find it disgusting and would rather drink cider!
Vile stuff not sure how or why people drink it. Worst is then there are a row of real ales on with great beers yet they pick that shit

The pub I end up at for lunch on a weekday a few times a week offers either Guinness or John Smiths as an 'ale' if you don't want lager. Unbelievable.

Not by anyone with a brain but if you go to some sporting events or even some hotels they class it as the 'Bitter' option and don't stock anything else. Very disappointing.

When I got married we had to ask the hotel doing the reception to order some for us and we had a barrel of Moreland's Old Speckled Hen!
Yeah we made sure we had a barrel of ale at our wedding, unfortunately lager drinkers tend to think that smooth is an acceptable form of beer, amateurs!

I was in the Lake District a while back - so many beers and so little time.

My favourite beer is Oakham Ales Mompesson's Gold, but I had a new one of their at the weekend called Perun, which was absolutely bloody lovely. The only problem is that it is 5.5%, so you have to go steady. After that I was dragged to a pub that sells Deuchers. I've had it before and quite liked it, but it tasted rank when following Oakham Ales. I liked Timothy Taylor's for a while, but when you've tasted any of the Oakham pale ales it makes it seem rather pointless.
If the only ale available was Old Speckled Hen I'd have to ask for Guinness instead. John Smith's Extra Smooth serves a very useful purpose by highlighting people who can't possibly be worth talking to.

A man of fine taste! Everything from Adnams is fantastic. One of my favourite breweries in the country. It's right up there with Shepherd Neame and Samuel Smiths.
My favourite Lake District beer is Jennings Snecklifter, although it is lethal stuff. Perfect for those cold and wet days they always seem to have in the Lakes.
I'd rather drink water than John Smiths Smooth. The reason so many hotels and pubs serve it is that it keeps for a long time and doesn't take any looking after. If I'm ever in a bar where that is the only "bitter" option then I'll have a lager or Guinness.

I love the Cumbrian brews but my favourite is Cameron's Strongarm ,originally brewed in Hartlepool but i think may be brewed just down the road at Castle Eden now.

I once had two pints of that with a full "English" at 9.15am before the coach arrived for a trip to the races
I agree about John Smiths et al.
Someone once brought cans of it to a party at my house the got stuck in to my Speckled Hen.
He still has the laser dot on his forehead whenever we meet up and the bloody John Smiths is in the garage.

I have the same problem with Thornbridge Jaipur. A lovely beer and incredibly easy to drink, you'd never know it was 5.9%!
Does anyone use the "UnTappd" app? It's quite a nice little app that links to a huge database of beers and lets you log your beer and give it a mark out of 5. I was a bit dubious at first but the database is huge and constantly updated, I've only come across a couple of beers that weren't on it and one of them was something that had just been brewed new. It has everything from my local towns breweries beers on to an imported Scicilian beer I had in a restaurant.
Was in Market Drayton last week and was drinking Joule's beer at the Red Lion.Highly recommended. The pub is next door to the brewery so the beer has not had to travel at all.
Can vouch for the quality of the Blond and the Pale ale.

Fleetwood Beer Festival this week in The Marine Hall on The Esplanade.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who lives anywhere nearby as it is always an excellent festival.

Wells Banana Bread Beer - lovely clean tasting ale with a taste of bananas from Wells in London. 5.0%
McEwans No.1 Champion Ale - brewed in Edinburgh. 7.3% - no more than 2 or 3 pints of this one or you'll be no use to anyone for the whole of the next day!
