Salopian are a bit of an odd brewery to me, I find a lot of their stuff very pedestrian and a bit boring and then they have the odd thing that is very good. Strangely you can usually tell by the branding, everything of theirs that I've liked has been in the dark bottles with white writing straight on the bottle, the average stuff has been in the bottles with the more "traditional" looking labels.
I've never seen bottled Salopian beers... I only drink cask ale, so am never actually looking at the bottles in the shops.

Had a superb pint of Oakham Scarlet Macaw last night, and at the weekend I was thrilled to find Ossett Silver King and Rat Brewery's White Rat on in the same pub... both in excellent condition. It's fairly rare to see either of those 2 beers here in Glasgow, so I was really pleased.

I found a great site last night called Boxbeers. It's an online bottle shop based in Denmark, everything is priced in Euros and it's 15 euros delivery to the UK. However, if you spend 80 Euros you get free delivery. Obviously it wouldn't be a regular thing but when I've got a bit of extra cash (birthday money, xmas money) I'm going to get a delivery, the individual bottle prices are fairly decent but it was the breweries that they stock that attracted me. Some Scandinavian ones that are meant to be very good that are hard to find in the UK such as Amagar Bryghus, Brewski, Dugges, Lervig etc and they've got a selection from well regarded US breweries such as Crooked Stave, Cigar City, Three Floyds and Stillwater. Plus they've got things from To Ol, Mikeller, Evil Twin and Omnipollo that I've not seen here. I'm quite excited by the prospect!

I'll have a look but shame you didn't discover it before the Pound tanked in value!

Yeah, I thought that. The prices are still OK though. I could definitely easily spend 80 euros for free delivery though.

I only found out about it because they were selling the Omnipollo Anagram Blueberry Cheesecake Stout which is meant to be incredibly good but is like gold dust over here. Sadly they'd already sold out.

Wow, just had one of the best beers I've ever tasted! Managed to get hold of a bottle of Omnipollo/Dugges Anagram Blueberry Cheesecake Stout and it is insanely good. They must use some kind of magic to make a beer taste so good! It's a 12% imperial stout but it's dangerously easy to drink! Not cheap at £10.50 for a 330ml bottle but worth every penny.

Jambo, I'm afraid no beer is worth £10.50 for 330ml bottle to me. I would pay up to a fiver but no more. Hope it was worth it 🍺

Honestly worth every penny. Obviously it's not a regular occurrence but I don't mind paying that bit extra for something special. It was ridiculously good, every mouthful was just an absolute treat.

I would as a one off treat. I don't normally pay more than £3 a bottle and it has to be pretty good for me to pay that.

But it's all relative, if you've got the money go for it.

Why is it with beer people seem to see things as a cost per ml. Surely there is the aspect of paying for a premium experience.

I find people are like this with beer, but are more willing to pay more for quality food and not as focused on quantity vs cost . I don't see why this is.

Would I pay over £10 for a beer though? It's a big gamble if you might not like it. But if you know it's good, then it's worth it.

I agree, when it comes to food and drink the value for me is in the enjoyment. Quantity doesn't generally come into it as long as I've enjoyed it. A lot of people seem to think value for money and cheap are the same thing which just isn't the case. If I paid £100 for a fantastic meal that I really loved I'd say that was better value for money than a £10 meal that was really average. I feel the same about beer.

With beer people seem to overlook the ABV too. There's a pub near me that simply has three prices for cask/keg, these are based on the ABV which seems sensible to me.
330ml of something that is 12% is the equivalent alcohol wise of nearly two pints of a 4% beer. Clearly at 12% it's something to savour and sip. Strangely you don't get people moaning about being ripped off when they buy a shot because they only get 25ml.

Anyone getting the xmas beers in yet? I'm not a huge fan of the traditional christmassy spices such as ginger and cinnamon in drinks so don't fancy a lot of the stuff that's about but I've picked a few up:

A couple of Mikeller ones including a Bretted pale with ginger, I'm hoping that the Brett will make me enjoy the ginger.

A Northern Monk xmas coffee porter. Not sure what's xmassy about it though.

Mad Hatter - Krampus, a xmas Dunkelweissen and Mint Choc Chip, an ice cream stout. I got a Mad Hatter Tonka bean and coconut porter too but I'm not sure if that's a xmas one or not.

Hoping to get some of the To Ol xmas ones at some point soon too.

On a none-Christmassy note, I picked up a can of Tropigamma by Beavertown the other day, a special limited edition tropical version of Gamma Ray they've made to celebrate their 1000th brew. It was lovely, well worth getting if you see it anywhere.

I'm building up supplies but not quite as fancy as you mate! Cancelled the Brewdog box as it appears they couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. Not sure what to go with next, Flavourly is cheap so might try them.

Have you had Ten Dollar Shake? Keeps popping up on my Facebook and looks my kind of beer.

I've not managed to get Ten Dollar Shake yet, I really want to try it, sounds good and I generally love Siren stuff, the last time I was at the bottle shop he said he was trying to get it so fingers crossed. It was one of the Brewdog Collabfest beers, I was a bit gutted I didn't manage to make it to Brewdog whilst the Collabfest was on as some of the 27 beers sounded great.

I can recommend Eebria in terms of customer service and organisation. I do the Brewery Club which is quite good, a different brewery each month, only had one that wasn't very good and that was Tyne Bank. I keep considering switching to the Discovery Club which is just 12 different beers from various breweries but it's a fiver more a month. I've been looking at Honest Brew too but will probably just stick to the one I have.

I cancelled Beer 52 after 5 months because I wasn't impressed with the service.

I think I mentioned in this thread that in my intro box, there was an out of date can. In fairness, they sent me an entire new box of 8 and I drank the out of date beer anyway, but that's not the point.

The last box I received had some dark beers in, even though my preferences were set for lights and pales only. Although I did try one of the darks last night, Põhjala Rukkirääk. It was quite nice, a rye ale, a hint of sweetness to it.

I guess my main reason for cancelling was that there seem to be other places where I can choose what I order rather than leaving it to chance. I suppose there is a part of me that enjoys the surprise element, but I'd rather take calculated gambles by picking stuff myself. The cock ups just gave me an excuse really.

The question now is where, there seem to be so many. I considered Brewdog as I like their beers and they also carry a decent amount of other stuff, but after seeing Walter's comments about them, I'm not too sure.

I've just discovered that Brewdog are launching their collaboration with Omnipollo, a raspberry smoothie IPA on Thursday at 18:00 in all their bars. I've been wanting it since I heard they were brewing it and it just happens that I'll be in my local Brewdog at exactly that time as I'm going to a gig nearby. Quite a good result!

If you're just planning on buying a selection from the online store I'd recommend Brewdog. I must've had 5 or 6 orders from them and they've always been spot on, very fast delivery, a couple came the next day and they usually have a good selection of guest breweries.

Honest Brew seem decent too, used them for the Rainbow Project box and whilst it was a pain ordering due to the demand the delivery and customer service was fine.

I'm looking at BoxBeers for my next delivery after xmas. They're based in Denmark so delivery is expensive but it's free if you spend 80 euros. I'm going to do a big order with them as they have some stuff that I've not seen over here and some breweries that are hard to find over here.

I've got a six year old magnum of Chimay Bleue which I've keeping at the bottom of a wardrobe in a cool room for all that time. Keep waiting for an occasion worthy of opening it up.

I'm not sure my experience with Brewdog was typical but I did have to contact them 3 times and I only had 2 orders!

First one was sent to Reading instead of the West Midlands where I live, second one was delayed because apparently they couldn't take the money despite the fact no-one else had a problem and then when it was delivered there was only 17 in my 18 beer box!

My pals and I call them 'Spew Dog'!

Not sure if you get this one down south, but you might like to try Loch Lomond Brewery's 'Southern Summit'... had 2 glorious pints of it last night in a Wetherspoons, but I know this one is also bottled.

I really like their beers but not too keen on their pubs which are a little too hipster-ish for my tastes.

Basically, I don't really like their minimalist "post-industrial" decors where you feel out of place if you don't have a beard. I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to pub design.

If you don't know much about the company here's a long article about their history:

Same here, been to five and never felt that way. Although I'm not really bothered about the decor of a pub, as long as the beer's good I don't really care. My local one is quite nice though, has some comfy little booths and there's a bunch of board games to play too which is quite good.
