Fancied something different so bought 4 bottles of various Badger ales from Tesco last night.

I tried the Golden Champion. It tasted like a full flavoured lager topped with sprite In a good way. It had a fruity, zesty taste to it.

Really excellent brewery - well worth a try if in the area:

Came across their autumn beer - Monty's Maple - in a pub beer festival in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago, it was superb. I really hope their beers become regularly available beyond their native mid Wales in the future.

Badger Golden Glory is still my favourite bottled ale and is the first one that I look for first in the supermarket aisle. I can only find it in Morrison's at the moment. They've just changed the label design, so I nearly missed it the other day.

I occasionally buy a 5 litre mini-keg from Stewart's Brewery, which is just a few miles south of Edinburgh - close to Ikea.

We try and fit in a brewery tour/visit whenever we are on holiday in the UK and have notched up a few in the last few years, and we always bring home some souvenir beer!

England: York, Black Sheep, Theakstons, Durham and Geltsdale

Scotland: Broughton, Black Isle, Cairngorm, Moulin, Deeside, Fowlers (Prestoungrange), Traquair House, Caledonian, Loch Fyne and Stewart

I'm not so keen on Brewdog, they seem intent on brewing beers for the sake of publicity rather than for anything else. And their beers aren't all that when stacked up to other better established microbreweries.

Love a good real ale. I'm lucky that we've some excellent local pubs serving a nice wide variety. The pub just around the corner from my house has 10 different beers that change regularly.

They do seem to be in the news a lot for their ridiculously strong beers and attitude, but it seems to be working for them.

I've tried a couple of their bottled beers - Trashy Blonde and Punk IPA - and both were lovely.

They've recently opened bars in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

I plan on popping into the Edinburgh bar to see what it's like.

If they can raise the profile of real ale with the students, tourists and nightclubbers, that can only be a good thing for the rest of us.

Are they the ones who made the worlds strongest beer?

I thought they were a bit novelty at first but I tried their american double ipa and thought it was a really solid beer!

Had a couple of bottles of Fuller's the other night.

1845 is just on the limit for me. A tad too rich and bitter but still a nice pint and would happily drink it if it was put infront of me.

Discovery Blonde is more my type. Kind of like a full flavoured lager.

Snecklifter gets my vote.
Although I do enjoy Badger's at times it slightly feels like a fruit drink.
I also like the occasional Speckled Hen or even a porter.

Sadly I can't bring myself to buy Newcastle Brown with it being stolen from Newcastle and production now moved to Tadcaster.
Heineken should really be in court for this!

I had an Old Slapper at the weekend, c/o Bolton's Bank Top Brewery - lovely semi-blonde ale @ 4.2%.

http://www.banktopbrewery.com/ales.htm

They had Flat Cap on as well but it wasn't as nice (although I had to have a couple, just to be sure - you understand...)

Yes, I found it quite fruity/zesty.

I'll have to look out for that one as the other two Badgers I tried were very nice indeed.

Tanglefoot is an acquired taste and certainly stands out as being different in the Badger breed.
If anything it hints at Speckled Hen,

I looked at your username there and thought for a moment you were a girl that likes real ale. a phenomenon that is seemingly rarely than hens teeth!

talking of hens, managed to pick up one of the new range of old speckled hen beers (old golden hen) think they are available at a discounted initial price in all good tesco stores now. looking forward to giving that a try when I finally shift this cold!

Brew Dog now have a bar in Camden (London) as well. However they have stopped brewing cask ale and don't plan to do it again.
I like their beers and the Camden bar also has some very interesting US and Danish craft beers so it's worth a visit.

I'm liking the Badger ales. For a dip into the beer world it's a good start.

I had a bottle of Hopping Hare the other night. I would say it was similar to a quality lager which had a depth of flavour and a shot of lime (juice not cordial).

Tesco now have a "Simply" range on bottled beer. IPA, Golden Ale and Dark Ale.

The IPA is lovely. £1.33 each or 3 for £3. Bargain!

Can't vouch for the dark ale as I don't like those anymore. I'm now a pale ale kinda guy
