Hi,

bought an ipod nano 4gb today, everything fine except itunes will not connect to the istore, my internet is working fine.

The message I get is:

'itunes could not connect to the itunes store the network connection has timed out'

'Make sure your connection settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again'

I'm using Windows Vista and the latest itunes.

Please help Thank you

Itunes usually takes its Internet Connection settings from the Internet Settings menu In Control Panel have you set up any proxy connections or changed anything that might block the connection?

Does the Message give an error code when it won't connect the store?

Nope! Just the error message thats above....it takes a good 30 seconds for this to come up so it's attempting to connect but just not happening!

Is it worth unistalling and re-installing? I've restarted my computer and re-connected to my wireless network etc etc already

You could try and do a reinstall perhaps one of the files relating to connection it to the net got damaged it should let you do a repair in the installtion menu.

I can't see it being a problem you posting a link plus I tested Itunes on my Laptop earlier because I use Itunes aswell and it seemed to connect through no problem have you checked all the cables connecting your router to the net.

The store does get busy periodically and it times out. It's happened to me a few times, not often though. When it does happen I just go back to it later. Although I have just checked for you and I can get in straight away.

Can somebody help me with an iTunes query aswell please lol.

Basically I thought with iTunes cards you didn't need a credit card etc: I thought you just go onto the music store and click redeem then type in voucher but it says i have to sign up then I have to register a visa card or that but I don't have credit card or that yet.

Does that mean im not going to be able to use it?

Thanks

I was on my mom's pc yesterday - she's got Pipex and it was sooooo horrendously slow compared to mine, it was painful and it was worse than dial up. It was almost like it was hanging every few seconds. She's called them and they blame peak periods. She gets about 1.3mb at most and they've told her that there is nothing they can do about that as it's the exchange, then she told me she used to get 2.5 on Tiscali before she switched to Pipex - so it's nothing to do with the exchange at all.

I'm on Talk Talk - peak periods have never affected me, my speed isn't great at 1.8mb but at least it's consistent and it doesn't matter what time of day it is.

If your line keeps dropping or hangs every few seconds as my mom's does at peak periods, I'm not at all surprised you can't connect to iTunes to be honest - it will time out.

I think you do after to sign up to use Itunes but you can use either a Debit Card or Pay Pal Account to register with Itunes aswell.

I've just grabbed this from the iTunes Support site - it was the US one but it should be the same...

Quote:
“I do not have an iTunes Store account
Install the latest version of iTunes. You can download iTunes (it's free) from the Download iTunes webpage. If iTunes is already installed on your computer, check your version and update if necessary.
Open iTunes.
In the Source pane (on the left side of the iTunes window), click iTunes Store.
In the upper-right corner of the iTunes Store window, verify that the button says "Sign In." If this button displays an email address instead, click the button and then click Sign Out.
In the QUICK LINKS window in the right-hand column, click Redeem.
In the resulting screen, enter the 16-digit code printed on the back of the card (it starts with an "X"), then click Redeem.

In the resulting screen, create your new iTunes Store account. You will have the option to enter credit card information; if you do not wish to do so, click the None button on the Payment screen.

Once you've successfully redeemed your gift card, the credit amount will appear next to your account name in the upper-right corner. Each time you purchase items, iTunes will deduct funds from the credit until it's depleted. If a pending purchase exceeds the credit amount, iTunes will ask you to enter a credit card number. You do not need to re-enter your gift card number to make multiple purchases.”

I've just checked - if you go to 'Redeem' and through that process you can create an account without the need for a credit/debit card etc. (see post above)
