iPod Touch - Help!
My iPod touch has randomly just....stopped working.
It kept crashing when it was connected to the computer yesterday, yet was working fine when I was listening to it. This morning, its completely dead. Wont switch on at all. Tried connecting it to the computer but the screen remains blank. Battery is not dead as I charged it up fully yesterday. Help

Try this.......
'Warning: This should be used as a last resort, restoring will erase all of your data *Must have iPod plugged into computer while doing this* Be patient, the force restore part may take up to 20 seconds. 1. Press and hold the home button and the sleep/wake button. (the power off option will appear, ignore it) 2. When the apple logo appears let go of the sleep/wake button (keep holding the home button.) 3. After a few seconds you should see the connect to iTunes image (you can now let go of the home button.) 4. Open iTunes . 5. iTunes should automatically recognize your iPod once the image comes up, if not unplug your iPod and plug it back in. 6. Restore your iPod by clicking the "Restore" button. ****If iTunes comes up with an error you may want to try a. Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes or b. restoring on a different computer.****' |

Firstly, double check the battery. Plug it into your computer and just leave it for half an hour.
Failing that, take it back. |

Ditto, my daughters i pod touch, only received 16/12/07 has died, sent back to Apple repair who are claiming user misuse and wont repair or replace, angry does not describe my feelings for something costing £270 and lasted less than a month.
There must be some consumer act/protection I can come back to them with. I can gurantee it has not been misused and used in no way than you would normally use it.

Apple have come back to us, they will not repair/replace claimimg misuse and that 'fluid' has got inside. I know for a fact this has not happened but they in other words after talking to them say I am lying, and it has to be the customers fault. I am so angry. £279 for something that lasted 20 days !!!!

if the touch gets very wet a white dot appears and is a common reason for a customer being told they have misused it.

I'll have a look when Apple return it. It was paid for by credit card and I am thinking of getting them to take up the fight.
if it did get wet and you have accidental damage on your household insurance policy, claim from them. if you and your daughter are sure that it did not get wet, call apple again and escalate the matter. you mention your credit card. by section 75 of the consumer credit act they have joint liability (along with apple) for any breach of contract such as, in this case, the ipod not being of merchantable quality. accordingly, you can claim directly from them. most credit card companies try to get out of this by saying they will attempt to recover the money from the seller and then, if they can't, by not paying up themselves. |

i would have a little talk with your daughter first to establish whether she got it wet. in my experience apple are very good at warranty and applecare service (in my case even replacing a power supply which was 2 1/2 years old and way out of warranty) and consequently there is a real possibility that the ipod did actually get very wet.

Do you work for apple? I am not trying to pull a fast one and feel totally cheated by a giant company who seem to have no idea about customer service. I no doubt an sure they do get people who have totally mistreated their i pods BUT when you know that is not the case and it has been used only as you would expect it is very disappointing. Consumer law and watchdog beckon. This was a birthday present and has left a very upset daughter. |

We have been on the phone 3 times now, no amount of explaining or reasoning seems to make them change their tune (that isn't a pun !) .We bought direct off their web site, and wish we had gone to somewhere like Currys now, I bet an exchange would have been far easier. Their suggestion now is private repair at an approved egineers, and how much is that likely to cost ? and why should I ???
