For anyone who uses Skype calling on 3 now - what's the quality and availability of Skype calls like?

My wife and I are going to get new PAYG deals and as almost all calls will be be to each other the Skype plan sounds good as it would only cost us £10 a month each. However, I'd need reassurance that the calls over Skype are just as good as normal mobile calls.

thanks

Skype on 3 is actually not like Skype on the PC. The way 3 have implemented it is, your call is actually a normal voice call which goes to their own server then is converted in to packets.

However, if both of you are using Skype on 3 to each other, the quality should be much like a normal phone call.

While I'm a BIG fan of 3, if you're only ever going to use it for calling each other, you'd be better off with Vodafone Family.

Then only one of you'd pay £5 each month for unlimited calls to each other (an 2 other people on Vodafone).

That Vodafone deal sounds pretty great - almost too good to be true! I'll have to take a look at that.

With the Skype phone, would I be able to keep the phone constantly logged into Skype and would it ring like normal if someone was callng me via Skype?

TIA

top up at least £10 in a month and for that you get your credit as well as 4000mins and 10000 txt messages via the skype application network to other sky users (via their username)

All sounds great in theory - does anyone have any experience of Skype calls on 3 and how well it keeps you logged in?

Will the phone ring when you get a Skype call?

thanks

I have used Skype on 3 with the Skypephone and the LG Viewty. It seems to keep you logged in OK most of the time but you have to check frequently as it can sometimes just log you out. Quality of the Skype calls on 3 is about as good as mobile calls I hve found and the handset rings when a call is received. You can also use Skype chat which is like MSN Messenger to keep in touch with Skype contacts. The Skype service does not seem to be dependent on 3's coverage alone as it seems to work when the handset is roaming, well at least it still shows you are logged in.
