George Foreman frozen Lean Mean Grillers
player1

Has anyone tried any of the range of the new George Foreman Lean Mean Grillers - a range of frozen beef , lamb, chicken and salmon snacks being targeted at "time poor" but health concious consumers. They are being produced by Northern Foods and sold under a George Foreman branding.

I saw the range in my local Tesco but the nutrition information was tiny and I didn't have my glasses to check if they really are "healthier" in terms of kcals, sat fat, sugar and salt.

Has anybody tried them yet, are they tasty , are they really healthy ?

Dunno if they're healthy, but I tried the salmon as a snack this afternoon, cooked on a Foreman grill.

It tasted much better than it had any right to - I'll be getting it again.

Blimey ! Not too bad on calories but look at the fat and saturated fat content...I'll give them a miss methinks.

The 2 lemon and black pepper salmon fillets were £1.99 from the Co Op, which struck me as a very reasonable price.

On the face of it there is nothing wrong with these, the calorie and protein count is moderate, the carb count is low and the fat/salt count is good. Recommended for those on low carb but I would be worried about is the 'pork flavoured' bit, what additives are they using? A natural pork steak would be much better.

I had the pork ones, and they were gorgeous. They didn't shrink (like cheap grills) and were very meaty and tasty.

Just looked on the net for the ingredients;
Pork (87%), onion (5%), seasoning (contains, salt, yeast extract, onion powder, sugar, spices), wheat gluten, pea fibre and wheat protein.

Obviously not an every day eat, but for me they were nicer than beef grillers and less strong tasting than frikkadellan.

Thanks for that. Not a bad price no.

I thought about getting the chicken ones as a quick emergency freezer meal type thing - then looked at the cooking time. Pretty much the same time as it would take to stick a chicken breast in and cook it from scratch. I didn't buy them...
