Blimey. Apparently it's true that they're in talks. Edited down.

Quote:
“PageSix.com has learned that Sanjaya Malakar and his sister Shyamali are in talks to headline their own variety TV series called The Sanjaya and Shyamali Show! The program plans to showcase a special blend of singing, dancing, comedy and, naturally, their lush manes of hair.

Sanjaya, who was spotted outside The Groundlings Theater on Melrose Ave over the weekend, was actually at the comedy mecca to cast improv actors for the show, his manager Suzy Sachs tells PageSix.com. "He has a huge following and a background in musical theater," she says, adding that the duo is currently in negotiations with MTV and plans to film a pilot in early spring.

[Sanjaya] is also prepping to release his first CD. "He's in rehearsals for a new album," Sachs tells PageSix.com. Sanjaya is studying with famous vocal coach Seth Riggs (who has worked with artists like Kelly Clarkson, Faith Hill, Ray Charles and Ricky Martin) and is heading into the studio this weekend to begin laying down some preliminary tracks. "He did very well," Riggs tells PageSix.com of their sessions. "I wish I could have done what he's doing at 18-years-old."”

I thought his sister was a better singer than him. I was surprised he got through and she was rejected.

I hope not...he was one of those contestants that just made you say "Why????" whenever he was on AI.

He was incredibly interesting and went down brilliantly on the tour, according to what the audiences were saying. A variety thing would be great after that Bill Vendall sketch he did for Will Ferrell.

I think he's great - a real one-off. Hopefully he'll get a long-term career out of it.

Sanjaya Whatsisface is to talent, what Dawn French is to hang gliding !

And your comment is to wit what the Daily Mail is to fair, unbiased journalism.

Just my opinion is all mate, the kid blagged his way from week to week and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. His only claim to fame was a succession of mad camp hair-do's. As I say all imo.

Don't mind your opinion at all; it was the random 'fat bird' comment which grated.

No offence.. I never thought of that, being married to one who's proud of her size I forget that some folks are sensitive. I've spent that much time in Anne Harvey and Elvi over the years I thik I should get an invite to the staff party !

Sensitive? I'm size 8, you sod! Had you said "... what Fiona Phillips is to pale or interesting" it would've been a laugh.

Well he was in good company then. Because he was actually one of the better male singers in the AI competition.

As for his 'only claim to fame' .... it's a hell of alot more than what the other 'season 6 idols' claim to fame is.

I loved Sanjaya - he was my favourite contestant last year. He wasn't the best vocalist certainly, but also not as bad as people made out. He was American Idol's Chico - the one you remember. I bet you can't remember most of the other 23 contestants. I remember Jordin and Melissa and then my mind goes blank. Edit - I meant Melinda (see what I mean )

Still no news about MTV but he's hosting an Idol special, Where Are They Now?, for the TV Guide Network on Feb 24th (?). The show will catch up with last season's and former idols from Melinda to those other people whose names I forget.

Also, a single is apparently in the works, no date for the album yet.

Nice observation.

Among the other celebrities on the Muppet Show were Diana Ross, Harry Belafonte, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Julie Andrews, Steve Martin, Rich Little, Paul Simon, John Denver, John Cleese and Gene Kelly.
