REPLACMENT is 207mm at 126 grams with batteries.

the buttons are a bit spongy, but no problems so far, all buttons appear to work.

My only comment... is... why couldn't they relocate the useful Playlist button and other useful ones under the flap to somewhere better?

(And apart from the first link does not work!)

I wanted to look at the picture to see the differences, but the image isn't loading.

Works for me but the new remote is like the old one without the flap.

That's what I was trying to say... also, spongy keys, all buttons are the same size and shape, and the colour buttons are vertical... it is NOT an improvement really!

Hi.

it`s supposed to be a replacement if you original, is faulty or lost, that`s why the buttons are in the same places.

but it is a bit lighter and shorted than the original, and you dont have a stupid flap hidding all the controls.

I am quite happy with it, it could have been a lot worse

regards

John.

Personally I have no objection to the original remote, the flap doesn't bother me at all and stops accidental pressing of the lower buttons with the palm of your hand. I have a Panasonic VHS recorder whose remote has a flap and so does my Humax LCD TV. I don't have any problem with any of them, personal choice I suppose.

Looks like any other cheap remote. I love the original remote so I'd stick with that.

These replacement remotes (as seen on eBay) can be bought from trade places (no account required) for much less. All you need is the Humax remote code.

Just goes to show 'one man's meat is another man's poison'. I cannot possibly live with the Humax remote: for my watching habits (almost all via recordings) I need all the 'play control' buttons to be grouped together - it seems complete madness to me to have some near the top of the remote and others near the bottom and, to make matters worse, hidden under a flap.

That added to the multiple button presses required to access other features (subtitles, programme info, etc) makes this a most unfriendly PVR to use - such a shame as it's otherwise high quality (not counting the 'inaccurate recordings').

I also find the buttons somewhat stiff, which is hard on arthriticky fingers - probably the copy remote would have been an improvement in that respect.

I'm very grateful to Deadeye-John for his clear pic

Hi.

I find it very easy to reach the playback controls on top and the slow buttons on the bottom without any problem, as this remote is shorter and lighter than the original.

well worth the money in my oppinion.

regards

John.

Could you give a link or two please? I don't understand about 'trade places'.

I think you've been quite lucky given that the remote you bought is not the same as the one in the ebay listing...

Amazon are selling the Harmony 525 for £43.62. This is a great remote and works really well with the Humax I have put my TV, DVD, Hifi and Humax remotes in a draw and never use them.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Har...0354947&sr=8-4

Highly recommend this its one of the best buys I have made (apart from the Humax)

http://www.trustedreviews.com/multim...rsal-Remote/p1

The database contains programming for the Humax, my TV, my Hifi etc. but I needed to tweak these to get them all to work, took a few hours to get everything working correctly but once done its great. If your a technophobe then this may not be for you but if your familiar with technology its really straight forward.

I prefer the relative positions of the colour buttons and the record button on the replacement. With the standard remote my nearest and dearest if forever pressing record when she meant to press the red button. "But it is red" is usually her standard defence.

The Harmony 555 (which is presumably better?) Is on Amazon for only a couple of quid more than the 525.

That's a good find... I saw the one from Pixmania who would slap extra postage on it, but this one is from Amazon so postage will be free...

This picture I made shows how well suited the 525/555 is to for controlling the Hummy...

That really is one truly terrible looking remote! I hate remotes where after a few months you still have to look and hunt around to locate what you're after. With a good remote it should be laid out well enough that after a few months you can do pretty much anything you want without having to look at it. All those buttons look exactly the same. Really bad.

Im not a fan of the Humax either far to big feel like taking a hacksaw to it !
When humax take out a new pvr hopefully a new redesigned remote will come with it which will work with the 9200 too.
son_t

This is highly unlikely. Humax have used variations of their generic remote for all their products (even the LCD TVs)...

Best invest in a Harmony remote such as this one These universal remotes can be re-programmed for any device you may wish to control.

Good spot, anyone know what the actual differences between the 525 and 555 are at all?
son_t

The 555 is 'orange' (black light) and not blue (525) and has two extra buttons above the number 1 and 3: http://www.mpx.no/img/produktbilder/...mony%20555.jpg

The two extra buttons are labled Mute and Prev which were where the Sound and Picture buttons are on the 525.

I would go for the 555, as there are more physical buttons you can assign functions to... (You can re-assign all the buttons EXCEPT Power off, Activity, Devices, Help, the LCD screen arrows, and the Glow buttons - at least on the 525 - not sure about the extra buttons on the 555.)
