There is live coverage on now on CCTV9. The taikonauts can be seen sat in their spacesuits waiting to board Shenzou.

Oh go away and do your own research please. I can't stand the thought of you contaminating this thread.

it's the content that counts...

however, about the """Google""" Lunar X Prize, I've a "conspiracy theory" (I say it by myself before you'll say it... ) explained in this Space Fellowship Forum's post

Unfortunately, for the sake of my eyes, I am unlikely to read your, no doubt interesting, content.

Wow am glad you started this

Me and my hubby decided to take on a joint indoor hobby this year- something we could do when kids were in bed but also that they could join in with (well maybe not the 6 month old)

When we were at uni we both did a subsidiary in Astronomy and really enjoyed it so we decided to buy a telescope and do some star gazing...

Its a really good one and apparently you can see planets and the moon and stuff although since we bought it it has been too cloudy!

Can you recommend any beginners sites or something to get us started? Some software came with it that my husband is getting his head round..

Am rather sadly quite excited... although I hope the neighbours dont see us
Why? I think that's a wonderful thing for a couple and family to do together. Sure beats staying inside in front of a TV watching a lot of the rubbish on TV these days or actively or passively ignoring your spouse.

Have to agree!

Am actively thinking of buying a telescope and rekindling my childhood love for all things astronomy based.

As its been ages im at the 'researching what is best to buy' stage on the internet.

Patrick Moore's books I found captivating as a child.

Beats watching crap like Celebrity Big Brother! (cue joke about z-list 'stars')

.

if, after several launches, the SpaceX Falcon-1 will (also) prove it be reliable, it could be used by the ("The Chosen" by Google, I feel...) Odissey-Moon team to WIN the """Google""" Lunar X Prize... as explained in details in this Space Fellowship forum's thread

.

PS - any link to a "Moon Machines" documentary webcast channel?

So who watched NASA's Greatest Missions?

Episode 1 (which will be repeated next Saturday) focussed on the Mercury missions. I thought it was pretty good.

NASA Mars Lander Sees Falling Snow, Soil Data Suggest Liquid Past

http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2008-183

September 29, 2008

PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander has detected snow falling from Martian clouds. Spacecraft soil experiments also have provided evidence of past interaction between minerals and liquid water, processes that occur on Earth.
