No such luck here in the Midlands. Looks like were in for a storm! Hopefully it will clear by 10pm though!

I think you got a fair chance of it being clear. What is it like with you now?

Hi,

I was wondering will binoculars be helpful for tonight or just make it harder to see, also being in Scotland the weathers been good but will it be over in a couple of seconds or will it last for a long while?

Binoculars would not help.

The whole shower takes places over many days. The peak is actually going on about now but we cannot see it since it is light.

It will only be visible to us when Persius rises around 10pm.

So from about 10pm to midnight would be a good time to look.

So why can we see them, without special equipment at night, is it because they're so bright?

sorry, I obviously don't know much but I am curious about this.

Well during the great Leonid display of 1833 the stars were said to fall from the sky. See http://www.arm.ac.uk/leonid/Meteor-Shower-small.jpg

Sadly I have never seen anything like that. However if it is clear tonight you should see quite a few meteors (shooting stars). They are nice to see but you got to go out to a dark location to see them really well.

The only equipment you need to see them is your eyes. Henry was seeing that you can't see them now because it is daylight now.

Well from Britain the plough is virtually always in the sky as it is just about circumpolar.

Look toward the north east. Do you know your directions?

They will be all over the sky from the horizon to just about straight up anywhere to the north - north east. Just find a spot where you can look northwards, tilt your head back and scan the sky for a while. Give yourself an hour or so - it takes ages for human eyes to fully adjust to darkness. Don't forget to report back what you see.

BTW it's pissing down here in Solihull but as with last night when it clouded over in early evening, I'm holding out hope that it will clear later on.
