I'm really looking forward to this programme. it probably won't be easy watching but nice to know reality of what's happening. if the cost came down a bit, we could all afford free-range eggs.

I watched that last week. It was a little off-putting, till I found out my gf always buys the free range eggs. Not sure about the chickens though.

Would be interesting to know if Free Range chickens are selling more across all retailers, since Jamies and Hughs programmes....anyone changed their ways? Notice any difference??

Twice this week I've been into Tesco and they haven't had any free-range chicken on the shelves.

I overheard one lady talking to the assistant about it and he said that they are selling out.

I bought the Willow Farm ones, as they didnt have the Free-range, I normally would have bought the 2 for a fiverand not looked at the more expensive ones. But after watching this programme I am going to see if I can afford to change to Free range or Willow Farm. (we are on a tight budget, but I will see how it goes).
Hubby remarked and tutted and said that they all end up dead anyway free-range or not so whats the difference?

I know Willow Farm isnt free-range but its my contribution and within the budget

good for you, every little helps and no one is asking anyone to give up eating chicken, just put a little more thought into it, hubby's comments will change to 'cor this chicken tastes nicer' in no time, and if we all do what we can then slowly things will change.

Tesco do seem to be selling more Free range and at my tesco they have cut back on the standard chickens, previously they had several shelves with it, now they just have part of a shelf.

80's chick - so, is there a difference in the taste? And was it worth the money?

Shame they didn't do a blind taste difference on the programmes??

Hello

On saturday night in my local sainsburys they where reducing all there cheap chicken to half price they had loads about 30+ chickens from 99p to £2.50 and all the free range organic corn feed birds there wasn't any, The guy who was reducing them was blaming the Jamie oliver effect for poor sales he even offered me a 3kg chicken for £2.50 i said no i have in the last 6 years always purchased free range from farm shops and just lately from my local dobbies in milton keynes where they have a farm hall and a great butcher.

Cheers

It won't last. In a few weeks time everyone will be eating the same as they did before.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me at all. Maybe just a handful of people in each store area will keep to avoiding standard chickens, but not likely to be the same numbers as now.

I lasted a few days then went back to eating ordinary chicken. The reason? I couldn't get hold of fresh organic chicken in three different supermarkets because it was sold out. I do wish it was available in the freezer section too. As a single person who can't be bothered to cook most of the time, I don't want to buy a whole chicken and there doesn't seem to be much choice other than that.
I'm on the free range eggs though.
