As per title - getting itchy feet and my Thomson seems to know I want to get rid of it as it's acting up more and more....

Not just yet - when there is it'll be in the news feed on Toppy.org.uk (www.toppy.org.uk/feeds.php) and I daresay someone will post the info here quite rapidly.

At the moment, we're busy testing it, to make sure it's as problem free as possible when it goes on sale (I know... just not what you expect of a new PVR!)

Thanks for the info....

Is it possible to give an indication? Are we talking a couple of weeks, couple of months etc?

Obviously it's quite hard to put a finger on these things sometimes, just curious if you had a gut feeling....?

If I had to guess, I'd say not days, but not months.

But then, if the freighter sinks, or the customs officials go on strike...

Thanks again....

No, the original statement was "Around christmas;" there were a few samples that got here between xmas and new year, which is what's being beta tested at the moment.

So, there are some here already; the software's being tested, and the rest will be available before too long.

I noticed (by chance) that Super-Fi are advertising them on their site - no price and details, images we've already seen, but it looks like retailers are gearing up for them....

Well Xmas has come and gone - still no news of the release date for the 5810??

When there's a date, I'll give a date. It won't be long, but the best way to find out right away when something is known is to keep an eye on the news feed at http://www.toppy.org.uk/feeds.php

Excellent - thanks.

Pretty expensive piece of kit though....

Really torn now between one of these and a (much cheaper) 5800.

Probably the decider will be - is the upscaler worth the extra money...?

You could almost buy 2 5800s for that price! Judging by my BT Vision box on my Sharp LCD the difference between scart and HDMI is almost nil. It could be of course that the upscaler on my telly is good.

I would just go for the 5800 unless money is no object of course.

For the price and March release, I think I'll wait for a Freesat PVR... at least that will be able to get HD content...

Price is higher than previously suggested (thoughts were around £300).

The 'related products list' is a hdmi lead - does it not come with one?

Also I cannot see any details of the HDD - neither size nor approx recording time are specified?

HDD size is mentioned in the blue banner, just above the picture.

I would have preferred £299.99

As far as I can tell from the specs it only upscales to 720p
Rather dissapointing.

It outputs via the HDMI at 576p, 720p or 1080i; looks jolly nice on my panel too.

The specs on that page don't actually say anything about the resolutions supported on the HDMI port; they say the picture resolution is 720x576, which is standard PAL DTT resolution.

nwhitfield - this was something that I was really interested in finding out about...

Friends have got Freeview boxes and LCD/plasma TVs and one thing I've noticed is how bad a "normal" TV picture looks on them. I'd be seriously tempted to get the 5810 if it can make a standard TV signal look good on a panel - then I can upgrade my TV.

I've been loathed to do so previously as my old CRT Sony looks WAY better than most planels when fed a standard signal.

thanks - I looked at that several times without being able to see it:sleep:

I can't see any claim to "upscale" the picture on the Turbosat site.

nwhitfield - interlaced to progressive aside, do you know how it converts a 576p signal to 720p/1080i? Neither 5/4 nor 5/4x3/2=15/8 are elegant factors......(Please note I have no idea what I am talking about here)
nwhitfield

It does it using a Pioneer chip, is all I can tell you.

nwhitfield - do you mean "you know more but are not allowed to tell" or "you don't know any more" IFSWIM?

And may I ask, what screen is it (make/model) and what is its maximum resolution?
