So who here has a slow cooker? We got one for christmas this year and i was wondering about recipes. We've tried chilli con carne and a mushroom/lamb dish were the best so far. A couple others have come out a bit bland, not surprised looking at hte recipes though either.

Its so nice to come back after work to a cooked meal

You might get some ideas from this thread:

This site is also good for slow cooker recipes, you can even specify how many people you want to serve and it will adjust the recipes for you:

I posted a recipe for Goulash that can be done in a slow cooker too... I think it was in the one pot meal thread.

I cooked a chicken in mine at the weekend, was lovely! If you do it though just be careful when you take it out, it all falls of the bones really easily.

What I have in my crockpot at the moment:

Pork roast with two sprigs of rosemary tucked under the binding twine
6 oz. white wine
6 oz. vegetable stock
1 peeled orange, cut in quarters
1 unpeeled apple, de-seeded and cut in quarters
1 unpeeled pear, de-seeded and cut in quarters
Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper

Once done I will pour the juices along with the fruit through a strainer to make it smooth and thicken with a bit corn flour and water....delicious!!!

I bought a slow cooker last week but have yet to use it. The instructions say that the meat has to be completly cover by liquid. Any advice, anyone, as that sounds a bit over the top to me?

I have never heard of that and I have been using a crockpot/slow cooker for years! I have always heard that you should not put a lot of liquid in. I personally wouldn't put in more than 1 pint (and that is to make gravy) unless you are making soup or stock. Too much liquid takes all the flavour from the meat.

Have fun experimenting. You will love coming home and the house smells lovely with dinner being done.

Thanks for that. I guess I should have known better than to read the instructions...........should have just come in here first, for some sensible advice.

i just cooked -

stuffing mix with white wine, butter and water, chicken oxo, half a tin of tomatoes.
chicken pieces bacon
courgettes, potatoes.

cooked on high for about 4 hours till chicken falls off the bone.

really delicious.stuffing has really soaked up the wine and chicken and bacon juices.
